EDUCATIONAL EQUITY TASK FORCE
AAUW'S initiative for EDUCATIONAL EQUITY was launched to focus the national educational reform on gender equity. In 1991, AAUW commissioned the AAUW Report: How Schools Shortchange Girls, which was a comprehensive report on the educational experiences of girls from early childhoood through grade 12. The report was released in February, 1992. In 1993, AAUW released Hostile Hallways: The AAUW Survey of Sexual Harassment in America's Schools.Our Knoxville Branch's task force has been active in determining how well the national research in the AAUW reports describes the climate in our local schools and has held in-service teacher training community symposia to raise awareness and find solutions. Educational Equity Workshops and/or programs are held annually. Check the AAUW meeting schedule for planned events.
