About Knoxville Area Districts Al-Anon/Alateen (KADA)

KADA is:

  • The Al-Anon Information Service for the Al-Anon Family Groups in the 15 counties surrounding Knoxville, Tennessee. It is staffed by Al-Anon volunteers from the local groups.
  • Listed by the World Service Office of the Al-Anon Family Groups Inc.
  • The Literature Distribution Center for Al-Anon Conference-Approved Literature for the Al-Anon Family Groups, and others, within KADA.

Services for Individuals:

  • Keeps meeting lists for Al-Anon/Alateen groups meeting within the 15 counties surrounding Knoxville, Tennessee.
  • Provides telephone answering service (865-525-9040) to speak with an Al-Anon member who understands the effects of living with or having lived with a problem drinker.
  • Provides e-mail answering service to write an Al-Anon member who understands the effects of living with or having lived with a problem drinker. (Remember, computers are not infallible and if you do not get a reply, please try again.)
  • Provides literature depot. Stop by the office (1409 Magnolia Ave. #4) to browse and/or purchase Al-Anon/Alateen literature. (Please call 865-525-9040 first to be sure that someone is there.)
  • Makes available Al-Anon/Alateen literature in public libraries.

Services for the Public, Media, and Professionals:

In addition to above:
  • Provides information about who Al-Anon is, where Al-Anon is, and what Al-Anon can and cannot do to help persons who are affected by another's drinking.
  • Provides literature and volunteer speakers, when available, for professionals, health fairs, and public functions.
  • Provides information for the media and professionals and means to contact the World Service Office for special help.
  • Assists with obtaining volunteers for programs at alcohol treatment centers and hospitals, crisis intervention centers, Employee Assistance Programs, medical associations, social work agencies, probation offices, law enforcement agencies, ministerial associations, business and professional organizations, government and private agencies, schools and education professionals, and anywhere people want to learn facts about how alcoholism affects the family and how there is hope for the family.

Services for Al-Anon/Alateen Groups:

  • Maintains listing in local telephone directories.
  • Maintains meeting list.
  • Refers individuals to local Al-anon Family Group meetings.
  • Publishes news letter for KADA.
  • Maintains inventory of Al-Anon Conference-Approved Literature for groups to have at meetings and to give to newcomers.
  • Provides opportunity for Al-Anon service. ("When I get busy, I get better.")
  • Distributes information provided by the World Service Office about Al-Anon around the world.
  • Provides means for representatives from the AFG meetings within KADA to meet and plan service activities.
  • Refers those wanting to establish Al-Anon/Alateen meetings to Al-Anon District Representatives and local groups.
