Cumberland Presbyterian Women

The organization of women's work in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church is called the CPW, an acronym for Cumberland Presbyterian Women. The CPW functions at four levels of the church: local congregation, presbytery, synod, general assembly.

The purpose of the CPW is:

  • to create opportunities for Christian enrichment
  • to provide avenues of involvement and service in the mission of Jesus Christ
  • to work for the world-wide outreach of the church

Projects - The CPW offers a style show and luncheon each year. The money raised from this provides support for a wide variety of CPW projects at home and abroad.

Early in December (first Sunday in Advent) the women of the church gather for an afternoon of informal fellowship as they decorate the building for Christmas. This is known as "The Hanging of the Greens."

All women of the church are invited to attend the quarterly meetings of the entire CPW, where the programs include business, interesting speakers, entertainment, fellowship, and refreshments.

The CPW is organized into six smaller groups known as circles. These circles usually meet monthly to work on projects and have programs of interest to the particular group. Following, is a list of our CPW Circles:

Sarah Prater Circle

This circle is a missionary circle involved with various projects that relate to helping missions at home and in foreign fields. The monthly devotionals are very inspirational and programs on some phase of missions lead to helpful discussions. The circle meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Garden Circle

This circle helps provide food for church members during times of bereavement. The circle meets the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the church.

Friendship Circle

Service work is centered with small children, shut-ins, and providing help during bereavement. This circle meets on the first Wednesday evening of the month. Time and place of meetings are announced.

Alpha Circle

This circle provides special remembrances to shut-ins and prepares meals for new mothers in the church. The circle meets the first Wednesday of the month at the church.
