BHS Marching Band Info
BE A PART OF ONE OF THE BEST MARCHING BANDS IN THE SOUTHEAST!
AM I GOOD ENOUGH? If you are interested, dedicated, and commit yourself and time to excellence, YES.
WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME? Improvement in concentration, time management, maturity, self-esteem, and much, much more.
BUT, BAND IS NOT FUN...Band in High School is a totally different experience than middle school. We perform for approximately 15,000 people, receiving standing ovations at every performance. Yes, it’s hard work, but the travel, fellowship, feeling of pride, and social life is indescribable until you experience it for yourself.
IS BAND A CLASS? Yes, Band is a fine arts class and members receive a fine arts credit. Therefore, you must live in the BHS district to join. PERFORMANCES AND AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES FACTOR INTO STUDENT’S GRADES!
GOSH, ALL OF THIS MUST COST LOTS OF MONEY! Unfortunately, Knox County does not fund us enough to do all of the cool things that we do. There are two separate band fees required each year: (1) the Knox County Band Fee and (2) the Band-Fundraiser Fee. These band fees allow the organization to operate, travel and compete in marching competitions. In addition there is an $85.00 Band Camp Fee. Additionally, students will be required to purchase a pair of marching shoes which will be worn with their uniform. We do not send the students door to door, selling one bite of cheese for $15.00. We do, however, give the students a chance to raise funds through a pledge system car wash, and various performance venues throughout the year.
IF I DO BAND, CAN I DO ANY OTHER ACTIVITIES AT BHS? Yes, you can participate in other activities, HOWEVER, there are certain dates which band activities must take precedence over all others.

Welcome to the beginning of the 2009 - 2010 Bearden High School Band year! Below you will find information regarding band camp dates and requirements. If you have any questions, please call Mrs Christian or Mr. Wilson at 865-539-7800 ext 300 or email beardenband@gmail.com.
MANDATORY REHEARSALS, ALL MEMBERS REGARDLESS OF GRADE
Always be on TIME! Don't forget the wise saying...
"If you are early, you are on time;
if you are on time, you are late;
if you are late..."
Check the Events Calendar for dates and times.
All performance and rehearsals are required, not optional!
Students who have conflicts will be dealt with on an individual basis.
Everybody depends on your commitment!
At lot of time at band camp is spent outdoors and there are some rules to follow:
- Proper attire consists of light colored shirt, shorts, and lace-up tennis shoes - no bare feet or sandals - this will be strictly enforced.
- Sunburn is not an excuse for missing rehearsals - please bring your own sunscreen!
- BRING A PERSONAL CONTAINER FOR WATER TO ALL REHEARSALS
Everyone is responsible for his/her mouthpiece, reed, oil, etc. (including those who play school instruments). On the first day of band camp, the following are required:
- Trumpet and Mellophone Bach 5C or Blessing 5C
- Trombone and Baritone Yamaha or Schilke 51D
- Tuba Conn 7 Regular
- All reed instruments must play ONLY Van Doren reeds - no Ricos
Every horn player must buy their own flip folder. This will be yours for the entire marching season. You are expected to have your folder at every rehearsal. There are no exceptions to this rule.
All of these items can be purchased at any local music store. You are expected to have these items at the first rehearsal.
Marching Shoes
All band members in the marching band need to purchase black marching shoes. Marching shoes may be bought at any of the local music stores. If you have a pair of marching shoes, make sure they still fit!
