Auditions and Clinics
Bearden High School Band Auditions
Auditions for Drum Major / Field Conductors, Color Guard, Drum Line, and Majorettes are held during the school year.
BHS Band - Drum Major
There will only be one Drum Major and we will use as many field conductors as necessary for the show we are doing.
The following are the expected responsibilities of anyone recommended for this position:
- Class Attendance - delegate to field conductors, but you are responsible for
its completion
- Conducting Rehearsals, Pep-Bands, Games, etc.
- Field setup - rehearsals
- Selection of stand tunes - copying and distributing
- Rehearsal monitors - attitude and morale
- Coordinate sheets/charts
- Positive example through preparation
- Conduct Pep-Bands
- Teaching beginning and remedial marching
- Report concerns to conductors
- Coordinate Woodwind pass-offs
- Medical Kit for rehearsals
- Responsible for Woodwind rehearsals
- Co-Ordinate Woodwind part pass-offs
- Report concerns to directors

BHS Band - Field Conductors
The following are the expected responsibilities of anyone recommended for this position:
- Class Attendance - taking daily attendance of assigned section
- Conducting
- Field setup
- Selection of stand tunes - copying and distributing.
- Rehearsal monitors - attitude and morale
- Coordinate sheets for your group, i.e., Brass/Woodwinds
- Positive example through preparation
- Conduct Pep-Bands
- Assist Drum Major in all aspects
- Teaching beginning and remedial marching
- Report concerns to conductors

BHS Band - Band Captain
The following are the expected responsibilities of anyone recommended for this position:
- Preside over band and or music rehearsals in the absence of Mr. Connell or Mrs. Christian
- Organization of Section rehearsals for both brass and woodwinds
- Coordinate meetings with sections, drum majors, and class representatives
- Responsible for the overall pulse of the entire band
- Warm-ups, stretching, breathing, and basics block.
- Responsible for the organization of all equipment loading and unloading (delegate members of each section)
- Attendance on bus trips before each departure from all locations
- Represents band to band boosters and other bands
- Must be knowledgeable of all sections’ music and drill in order to aide in rehearsing
- Co-ordinate brass part pass-offs
- Report concerns to the directors
- Qualities to possess:
- Outstanding leadership skills
- Excellent musician on your instrument
- Must have tried out for Drum Major at least once
- Respect of classmates

Junior Clinic
Junior Clinic is open to all freshmen band members. Fall 2007 tryouts are at Maryville Middle School on Saturday, November 17, 2007. The clinic is at Halls Middle School on November 30 - December 1, 2007.
The tryout will consist of the student:
- Being requested to play any of the following scales from memory:
- Concert Bb, Eb, F, Ab, and C, plus the Chromatic scale (lowest note to highest note)
- Playing the selected prepared piece (Junior Clinic Prepared Material 2004/2007 - revised June 2001); copies of the tryout music are will be available on the ETSBOA web site.
- Sight reading a piece of music
Percussion students are required to audition on Snare Drum, Mallets, and Timpani.
There will be three clinic bands (Gold, Silver, and Bronze). All students in grades 6th through 9th are eligible to try out. There are no restrictions on the number of students who may try out; however, students must be registered to particpate in the audition.
