BE A PART OF
ONE OF THE BEST MARCHING BANDS IN THE SOUTHEAST!
AM I GOOD
ENOUGH? If you are interested, dedicated, and commit
yourself and time to excellence, YES.
WHAT’S IN IT
FOR ME? Improvement in concentration, time management,
maturity, self-esteem, and much, much more.
BUT, BAND IS
NOT FUN...Band in High School is a totally different experience
than middle school. We perform for approximately 15,000 people,
receiving standing ovations at every performance. Yes, it’s hard work,
but the travel, fellowship, feeling of pride, and social life is
indescribable until you experience it for yourself.
IS BAND A
CLASS? Yes, Band is a fine arts class and members receive
a fine arts credit. Therefore, you must live in the BHS district to
join. Performances and after school activities factor into student’s
grades!
GOSH, ALL OF
THIS MUST COST LOTS OF MONEY! Unfortunately, Knox County
does not fund us enough to do all of the cool things that we do. There
are two separate band fees each year: (1) the Knox County Band
Fee and (2) the Band-Fundraiser Fee. These band fees allow the
organization to operate, travel and compete in marching competitions.
In addition there is a Band Camp Fee. Additionally,
students will need to purchase a pair of marching
shoes which will be worn with their uniform. Students will be given an
opportunity to raise monies thru various events to help with some of
these fees. More information will be available at the mandatory
parent meetings to be held.
IF I DO BAND,
CAN I DO ANY OTHER ACTIVITIES AT BHS? Yes, you can participate
in other activities; however, there are certain dates which band
activities must take precedence over all others.

BEARDEN BAND PARENT MEETING
All freshman parents are asked to attend a mandatory Freshman parent
meeting during Freshman Camp on Thursday, TBA.
This meeting will give Freshman parents the opportunity to receive
introductory information to the Bearden Band program. We want to
make sure that everyone feels informed and ready for your student to
play with the Big Dawgs!
All
parents are asked to attend a mandatory parent meeting during the
course of band camp. Two meetings are scheduled at different times;
hopefully, one will be convenient for you to attend. Be sure to
join us on TBA
or TBA.
Both meetings will be held in the BHS Library. Each meeting
should last about an hour, and you will have the opportunity to turn in
any late Band Camp Fees (TBA, check payable to Bearden High School
Band) and the Knox County Band Fee (TBA, check payable to Bearden High
School Band). Please turn in two separate checks, and please put
your child’s name in the memo line. Also at this time you
will
have the opportunity to hear about our upcoming fundraising
events.
During this meeting you will have the opportunity to meet other high
school band parents, learn about the ins and outs of the BHS Band
program, and find a place where you can encourage your child and be a
part of your child’s high school experience. We have numerous
ways for you to support your child through serving as a chaperone, on
the hospitality committee, the car wash committee, the equipment crew
and fundraising. There will be an opportunity for you to meet the
various committee chairpersons and sign-up to work on these committees
at the meeting. We encourage
each
parent to be a part of their child’s
band experience. There
are many opportunities for all parents to
serve in one capacity or another! It takes many individuals to
make a program of this size and importance function, everyone must
become involved!
