4 layers of clothing for upper body (long underwear, long sleeve
shirt, sweater / sweat shirt, windbreaker)
2 layers of clothing for lower body (cotton pants over long underwear)
Wool socks (especially in hiking boots and cold weather)
Rain gear (we recommend rain jackets vs. ponchos; they hold up
better and are easier to move around in)
Bathing suit (summer)

Soap (liquid soap, or bar soap in a holder ... nylon hose works well)
Small amount of toilet paper in a plastic bag

50 feet of 1/8" nylon cord
