BOLD badges indicate those required for Eagle
(1) Must earn ANY ONE of these three badges: Swimming OR Hiking OR Cycling
(2) Must earn EITHER one of these two badges: Emergency Preparedness OR Lifesaving

Merit badges are mostly for the older Scouts. Younger Scouts will probably find most merit badges on the difficult side and will not be quite ready to work on them solo - but they are certainly welcome to try them out.

Please remind your Scouts that if they wish to work on a Merit Badge, they need to do the following:

  • obtain a copy of the Merit Badge booklet (available at the Scout Store; a few are available from our Troop on loan, although many booklets have been revised; or you could borrow from another Scout.)
  • get a copy of the Merit Badge worksheets (available at Scout meetings, or on the web at meritbadge.com)
  • contact a Merit Badge counselor BEFORE you do much work! This is very important. Some Scouts have misread requirements and thought they were through with the badge, and were very disappointed when told there was still work to be done.

If there is no counselor listed for the badge you want to do, please contact Scoutmaster Steve Bellofatto at sjbellofatto@bellsouth.net. He will contact the Smoky Mountain Council and find a counselor in another Oak Ridge Troop who is willing to work with our boys.

For a complete list of our merit badge counselors and their contact information, download the following RTF file "Troop 129 Counselors".
