New winners at 2009 ChiliFest!

Many in the crowd at this year’s Chili Fest commented that this year’s entries were the best ever.

In addition to fourteen mouth-watering chilies, people enjoyed tortillas and quesadillas and a remarkable array of delicious home-baked treats.  The Stovall Family Life Center at the First Church of the Nazarene was the perfect setting.

Judges Wilda Cornett, Sharon Davis and Bobbie Aplin selected the winners in three categories and the public voted for the People’s Choice.

Dotty Sherman of 2 Granny’s Restaurant in Rockford, entering for the first time, won Best Beef with her Granny’s chili.

The judges declared a tie in the Other Meats category:  Kim Cook, who got the ribbon in 2008, won again with her Chicken Chorizo and Suzanne Brown won with her Chicken Blanco.

2007 winners Lisa Misosky and Catherine Frye won Best Vegetarian with their Southland Books & Detour Coffee chili.

First-time contestant Dennis Busser won People’s Choice with his Oh Deer! Venison chili.
