Citizens Against the Pellissippi Parkway Extension will host a state Senate candidate forum on transportation and planning issues at 7 p.m., Oct. 25, at the Blount County Public Library. ``We wanted to give community residents an opportunity to hear the candidates answer questions on roads and transportation planning, which are topics that concern us all,'' said Nina Gregg, chair of CAPPE's communication committee and board member at large. The group invited candidates for the state Senate, state House and U.S. Congress to come prepared to answer six questions about local transportation planning and funding for maintenance and improvement of the existing road system, the proposed Southern Loop and the proposed completion of the Pellissippi Parkway Extension, and preservation of open space for recreation, watershed, protection, agriculture, wildlife habitat and viewscapes. According to CAPPE, two state Senate candidates for the 8th District have agreed to attend, including Democrat Linda Jo Dees and Independent Jim Melton. Republican Raymond Finney, who has a scheduling conflict on Oct. 25, will be represented by his campaign manager. State Rep. Joe McCord, a Republican running unopposed for the 8th District, and state Rep. Doug Overbey, running unopposed for the 20th District, also will attend.
