Help With Your Website
Each semester Gretchen Whitney, a professor
at UT, uses her graduate class to work on web pages for nonprofit organizations.
The class benefits, and nonprofit organizations get their websites off
the ground.

Subject: Agencies need a website?
Each semester, graduate students in my
Information Network Applications course in the School of Information Sciences
at UTK "adopt" a nonprofit agency and create a website for them. It's been
an enormously successful part of the overall KORRnet effort. I estimate
that these projects have contributed 20-25% of KORRnet's content at this
point. I'm looking for some more agencies that wish this kind of
assistance this Fall semester 1999, and Spring semester 2000.
For an agency to participate, they are
required to:
-
have a nonprofit status
-
be located within the KORRnet service area
-
have a willingness and interest to have a
presence on the Web
-
be committed to working with the student and
providing the needed information for the site, time for consultations,
time for review of work, etc.
-
appoint a person to learn basic HTML skills
so that the page can be updated.
The agency does not have to have a computer:
Agencies can use the KORRnet lab at Knoxville Center for consultations
with the student, updating the page, and so forth.
I cannot promise "adoption" to any agency.
The students choose the agencies they want to work with from a "projects
page." I can only promise consideration. But agencies will
be put on the "projects page" for the next semester and the next, until
they are chosen.
Students have to make their agency decision
this semester by September 30, 1999. Next semester's deadline is
February 15, 2000. Pages must be completed and training of
the agency for updating the pages must be completed about the middle of
December.
This service is offered at no charge to
the agency. We only ask of their time and commitment to making a
great agency website!
If you can nominate your agency or another
agency, please send
-
the name of the agency,
-
the name and phone / email address of the
contact person, and
-
a brief description of the activities / purpose
of the agency
to gwhitney@utk.edu.
