Horizontal Lines
/ Making Tables Cells Span More Than One Column
the index)
I use horizontal lines to separate
parts of a page or to set off one part from another. In the table for this
page, I inserted a horizontal line in the second row. Before doing that,
I adjusted the table so that the second row of the table consisted of a
single cell. Here's how to do that:
Put some text in the cells of the second
row. I found that doing this sometimes helps Composer not to lose track
of which part of the table I'm working on.

Right click on the table within the
left cell and select Table Properties.

A window should pop up.

I left everything alone on this window except
for the part that tells Composer to make the cell span two columns. Click
OK when you have that, and your table should look like this:

Now, right click in the right cell and select
Delete
and Cell.

Your new table should look like this:

Now, you are ready to insert a horizontal
line. Click within the center row and delete the dummy text that you put
in there earlier. Now click the Horizontal Line
icon in the tool bar above. Your table should look like this now:

The line will expand to fill the cell it's
in as you add text or images to the other cells. For example, here is the
same table with some text added (actually, you can see the same thing by
looking at the top of this page from within Composer):

You can adjust the properties of the horizontal
line by right clicking on it.

The properties allow you to change the alignment
of the line and its length and thickness.
I went through all the steps above to put
a horizontal line in the bottom row of the table, which now looks like
this:

With the two tables that I put in the top
row previously, the table should look like this:

Now you're ready to see how to insert an image.
