who we are
Our goal is to be the information backbone for facts about East Tennessee. We provide free email, Internet access, and home page space on our computers to nonprofit organizations so that they can establish their presence on the World Wide Web. Nonprofit organizations are free to develop web sites to provide information about their services and activities to anyone with a connection to the Internet. KORRnet hosts web sites that range from local civic groups and school organizations to churches, health, and government offices. We feel it is important for citizens to be able to obtain and exchange the information they need. Any citizen with a computer and a phone line may establish a free email account with KORRnet and access the Internet through a text- based web browser.

Community Health Improvement Councils

Covenant Health, the University of Tennessee, and KORRnet began a partnership to bring up-to-date health information to counties that border Knox and Anderson counties. Community Health Improvement Councils began to identify health resources available in their communities. They also began to identify gaps in the services available to their citizens. They are now in the process of reaching out to service organizations for help in making plans to improve community health.

KORRnet is making communication easier by providing email accounts to citizens and web pages to nonprofit organizations, government agencies, educational organizations, and other community groups.

Loudon County's Health Improvement Council identified teen pregnancy as problem in their county. Over the course of two years, they formed a project team to address the problem. Now, that project has become its own 501c3 nonprofit organization, Break the Cycle. Break the Cycle is developing a website on KORRnet.

Loudon County already has a web site that is a large index of community organizations that provide services to the community.

User Help Disk

Two help disks are now available to KORRnet users.

The first is for use on Windows 95 / 98 computers. It will automatically install a KORRnet icon on your desktop and configure HyperTerminal so that you may access KORRnet, your email account and browse the Internet. This disk is available for all KORRnet users.

The second disk is for use by nonprofit organizations. It contains templates that you can use to set up your website. You can use a web page editor such as Netscape to add your own text and pictures to a prefabricated template. The templates come with instructions on how to set up a web counter, feedback and comments forms, and how to set up your computer to access the Internet.

You can download both of the disks from the web at:

www.korrnet.org/chic/disks
Or, contact KORRnet. We may be able to mail you a copy of the disks.

Online Help

Help is also available online. Information ranging from how to set up and manage your website to explanations of KORRnet - specific codes are available on the Creating Web Pages on KORRnet website.
