CHOTA Canoe School - Help Needed

INSTRUCTORS AND SAFETY BOATERS NEEDED:
The agreed consensus is that the more instructors that we can get, the better the quality
of a school we can put on. Good instruction for early paddlers is a major key to getting
people to stay involved in this sport, so if you are an experienced paddle, and you want
to give a little bit back to this sport, there is nothing better that you can do than
to volunteer to be an instructor or safety boater for our school. Even if you are
interested but a bit apprehensive because you have never instructed before, just contact
David and he will be happy to talk with you about it.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED:
We will be offering students that do not have their own gear the option of renting it from
the club for a cost of $20. In addition to this fee, a $50 deposit is required which will
be refunded on return of the gear. We will be using the gear in the club’s fleet, but most
likely, this will not be enough. So if anyone is willing to loan out their extra gear,
even if you cannot make it to the school, it would be much appreciated and everything will
be promptly returned to you.

AUCTION ITEMS NEEDED:
Get out there and find some good stuff for us to sell at the auction!!!

Hope to see you at this fun event!

Semi-full moon bike ride on Saturday, May 17 at Cades Cove
A.M. Lindsey will be leading a semi-full moon bike ride on Saturday, May 17 at Cades Cove.
The group site with the covered picnic pavilion is available that evening
and she has reserved it for those wanting to camp overnight.
We can ride the Loop again early Sunday morning before the traffic shows up or
people may want to paddle (assuming there is water!).

We will meet for a picnic supper around 6:30 pm on Saturday before we ride the Loop and
make breakfast together on Sunday morning.
Bring your own entree, drinks, and a dish to share (baked beans,
chips, slaw, etc). Lights and reflectors are required by the Park Service.

Chota Canoe School June 20 - 22

Chota’s annual Canoe & Kayak School has been a great way to introduce our sport to newcomers for many years.
We offer beginner classes in whitewater kayak and canoe, as well as touring kayak.

For those who are already into paddling, but wish to advance in skill level, our school also offers
advanced beginner and intermediate whitewater kayaking classes.

Chota also provides the option of renting equipment from the club for this event.
This way you can still come and learn even if you do not have your own gear.
