Trip Rules
These trips are scheduled for Chota members, but ETWC members are welcome too!
To join the club, please print the membership form from the website
and send it to the given address along with the annual fee. You may also give it to the trip leader on the day of the trip.

You must contact the trip coordinator by the Wednesday before the trip if you want to attend.
The trip coordinator has sole discretion when evaluating skill levels for the intended trip.
All trips are water level dependent. Trips may be cancelled or changed due to lack of water or too much water.
The skill level of the group will be considered when choosing sections and appropriate water levels.
These are not beginner trips unless marked with a (B).
These are winter paddling trips.
Appropriate clothing and gear is required. If you are not sure if your gear is adequate, ask the trip coordinator.
You will not be permitted to paddle in shorts and a dry top no matter how far you drove to get to the river!!!!

Club Equipment
Club boats and gear is available to Chota members at no charge.
However, equipment that is not returned by the TUESDAY following the trip will be subjected to a $20 late fee.
This is to ensure that all club members have fair access to the gear.
If you are interested in using club equipment, please contact Mary Ann Grell at 865-207-6250 or magrell@yahoo.com

Paddles to the Grill – Beginning in June , Evenings on 2nd and 4th Thursday of Month
Chota will continue the Paddle to the Grill week night paddle, moving to Thursday nights, on alternating weeks (2nd and 4th Thursday ). These paddles launch at 6pm, are typically 4 miles in length, include dinner at a marina, with a return trip in the dark (lights are required). Usually we are back loading boats at 10pm. Occasionally, our paddle to the grill will be less than 4 mils in length, of which recreational kayaks (15 or less) and canoes would be able to accommodate a shorter length evening paddle. Jack Graham will be organizing these events, with pre-announcements via email relative to the location and marina. Please contact Jack Graham,
865-675-6545,bikrsall@tds.net

Paddler’s Choice Events

just give the Touring Chairperson a call for spur of the moment “Pick Up” trips,

and he will assist in coordinating the event!

Social Paddles – Coming in April Thursday Evenings Downtown Water Front– All Types of Boats Welcomed - Check the Web Site for Details
Beginning in April there will be weekly 2 to 3 mile social paddles on the downtown river front on Thursday evenings.

The paddles will be geared towards all types of boats (recreational kayaks, touring kayaks, canoes). This event will be in cooperation with River Sports activities that are open to the public. Each paddler is responsible for bringing or acquiring a boat and gear to the launch site. The paddles are planned every Thursday night starting in April from 6-7:30pm at Neyland Drive put in. Place of put-in is subject to change and will be updated 2 wks prior to paddle on web site “outdoorknoxville.com”. By April, our Chota touring trip site should have a link to the launch site information, when it becomes available
As with all trips, please contact the trip coordinator prior to the trip, as meeting plans may change.

March 18th-24, 2012 Cumberland Island Sea Kayak Touring Trip March 18-24, 2012
Join us as we paddle to beautiful Cumberland Island National Park off the southern coast of Georgia! We will be camping for 4 nights in Sea Camp --paddling over on the 19th and back on the 23rd. It is situated under a huge canopy of live oaks and Spanish moss. Bathrooms and cold water showers are the creature comforts offered. Water is available but can have an off taste so would be advisable to bring your own. Reservations have been made for 3 sites/ 20 people although each site will only allow 3 tents per site. With that as a parameter, we may have to limit the group size. Once I have a list of everyone that is interested, we can sort it out.
Since water conditions can be a bit dicey, it is advisable to be proficient in wet exits and re-entry. Weather can vary from cold and wet to sunny and warm. Be prepared for cold water conditions.
The last time we made this trip, we had a group dinner the first night. We'll plan on doing that again. Other than that, you will be responsible for all other meals.
We will use Sea Camp as our base and make day trips as weather and tides allow. If wind or tides restrict our paddling options, bicycles are available to rent to tour the island.
There is a $4 entry fee per person plus an additional $4/day camping fee totaling $20. Plus wherever we decide to stay the night before we paddle over, either hotel or camping.
We will paddle over from St. Mary’s, Georgia or Fernandina Beach, Florida.
Please contact Sharon Cogburn to reserve your place on the trip at onehappidog@aol.com

Nov 10-13 Pensacola (Fort Pickens)
We are planning another Pensacola (Fort Pickens) trip this year. The dates are November 10, 2011 thru November 13, 2011. We are reserving the group campsite. We will have our usual seafood dinner Saturday night and will split the cost among those attending. Just an estimate of $25.00 - $30.00 per person which would include food, drink and camping. Also, this same weekend the Blue Angels will be performing at the Navel Base just across the bay and they put the same show on for those who are paddling in the bay, from big Yachts to Kayaks. Just a note for everyone, you don’t have to be a Sea Kayaker to come and have fun. Please note to call me to if you plan to attend.
