Trip Rules
These trips are scheduled for Chota members, but ETWC members are welcome too!
To join the club, please print the membership form from the website
and send it to the given address along with the annual fee. You may also give it to the trip leader on the day of the trip.

Please contact the trip leader by the THURSDAY before the scheduled trip.
Trips listed as a weekend do NOT necessarily mean there is a trip both days, the trip leader will choose which day.
The trip leader may cancel the trip if there are less than three participants.

Club Equipment
Club boats and gear is available to Chota members at no charge.
However, equipment that is not returned by the TUESDAY following the trip will be subjected to a $20 late fee.
This is to ensure that all club members have fair access to the gear.

coordinator listed below, or the touring chairperson for more details.
To organize other trips not scheduled, or to find out about other paddling
trips being organized, contact the Touring Trip Chairperson, email Doug

PADDLE to the GRILL (PTTG) – Thursday Nights Start in May.
Beginning in May - Paddle to the Grill (PTTG) each Thursday evenings will
return. Paddle for dinner/beverage and return with paddling lights. Off
the water by 10pm. Notices of PTTG will be send via email. If you’re
not on the Touring Distribution email listing, Contact Jack Graham,

Paddler’s Choice Events
If you’ve always been interested to paddle a particular river or lake,
just give the Touring Chairperson a call for spur of the moment “Pick Up” trips,
contact Doug Johnstone at canoeone@tds.net or call 865-966-3391, or 865-804-5240 (cell)
and he will assist in coordinating the event!

Mar 14 Tellico Blueway (part of Polar Bear Weekend)
This will be a leisurely 12 mile trip. All boat types welcome (touring and canoes).
All paddlers need to have enough experience to paddle comfortably 12 miles.
Adequate cold weather gear required. Remember to bring a lunch and plenty of water.
This is a truly beautiful area, scenic spot, and a must see at lower water event.

Mar 20 Chota Paddlers Volunteers for quarry paddle at Fort Dickinson, part of the Knoxville Urban Wilderness Challenge, 10am to 1pm
The public is invited to canoe the turquoise-blue waters of the quarry lake at Fort Dickerson from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
River Sports will provide boats and equipment for paddlers 12 years and older. Chota will provide volunteers for event.
This is a one-time opportunity as the quarry lake is not currently open to the public
Need member volunteers. Touring paddle downtown after event.
Free Beer and food at Barleys for Volunteers starting at 5pm

Long Distance Trips
 
Mar 19-23 Florida Touring/Camping in Ocala National Forest
Day trip paddling and camping. Come paddle the crystal clear Juniper Creek located at the Juniper Springs Recreational Area. Canoe rentals available (ph 352-625-2808). Camp reservations for Juniper Springs Campground (recreation.gov). For more information contact Gary Christian at 865-293-6691.

March 26-28 Kentucky Lake Overnighter
A self contained back country sea kayaking trip. March 26-28. Three days two nights on Kentucky Lake. We will camp on the beaches on Land Between the Lakes. A back country permit is required, $5 per person.
We will depart Knoxville early on Friday March 26 and return on Sunday evening March 28.
Each boater will be responsible for their own camping gear, food and transportation.
This lake is very large and may have rough water conditions if the weather is bad.
Boaters need to have touring kayaks with proper self rescue gear including spray skirt and pump.
Paddling distances each day will depend on weather conditions and the group makeup.
Weather could vary from cold, snow and rain to warm and sunny.
The water temperature will probably be only in the 50's. Please have proper cold weather paddling clothing.

April 16-18 East Coast Canoe and Kayak Festival James Island Park just out side Charleston, SC The 3 day event is organized by the Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission at the James Island County Park. This is a great opportunity for beginners and more experienced paddlers to improve sea kayaking or canoeing skills. Participant can sign up for the full weekend package or for a single day event and need to provide own boat. Some classes are included in the registration fee but most require additional fees ($15 for basics and $25 for masters). There is a cutoff limit for each class. To sign up for individual classes, participant will need to register for the event first. Meals are extras. A campground is located adjacent to the large lake where most of the classes will be held. Participant must registered for the event online first before making reservation for the campground (only RV and primitive camping sites are still available).

Some of the classes are filling up fast, so register as soon as you can if you are interested. Please note that there are some pre and post-festival classes as well. For more information, please contact Iris at 865-448-8907 or via email at irisleung@earthlink.net.
