The Deathridge Family Endowment Scholarship has been established by Mark and Gloria Deathridge to assist students who have attended CMY for at least three years to continue their education in the post-secondary field of their choice.

2009 Scholarship Recipients

Dominique Sanders

Dominique LaChea Sanders is a 2009 graduate of Austin East Magnet High School. The 2009 Tennessee Scholars proudly recognized Dominique as a World-Class Student. She also received a Certificate of Distinction from Knox Achieves. She will attend Roane State Community College, majoring in Nursing Education, with a minor in Music.

Dominique is a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she serves in the Youth Choir and on the Youth Usher Board. She is also a member of the Workforce Connections Youth Program, Educational Talent Search, and has achieved the rank of Sergeant in the Lt. Alexander Bonnyman's Young Marines Program.

Dominique is the daughter of Mrs. Regina Sanders and the late Reverend Willie Sanders.


2008 Scholarship Recipients

For 2008 there are four scholarship recipients: Brandon Coffer, C.J. Harper, Koby Minor, and Tai Young. These students have maintained contact with CMY and each one has rendered more than fifteen hours of community service to the center. The amount of each scholarship is $1000. As soon as the students have entered college, the checks will be sent to them at their school.

Brandon Trent Coffer is a 2008 graduate of West High School, where he was an AP Scholar and a member of Mu Alpha Theta. Brandon is currently enrolled at Carson-Newman College. Brandon will be starting college in the fall of 2008 with a double major, one in Piano Performance and the other in Music Composition.

Christopher Earl Harper Jr. (C.J.) is a graduate of West High School, where he was a three year member of the band. He plans on going to the University of Memphis where he will major in International Business, with a minor in Psychology, Chinese and Spanish.

Koby D. Minor is a 2008 graduate of Austin East Performing Arts & Science Magnet High School. He will be attending UT Chattanooga majoring in Criminal Justice with a minor in Finance. Koby is involved in many church, community and academic organizations such as the Youth Choir and Youth Usher Board at Tabernacle Baptist Church and the NAACP, Epsilon Sigma Theta Jr. Fraternity, Inc., KUB Teen Work, the National Honor Society, the National Honor Roll and is also an Austin East Ambassador.

Tai Young is a graduate of Austin East Magnet High School. During the four years spent at Austin East he belonged to groups such as the National Honors Society, the varsity football team, and the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA). These different activities not only helped him prepare for college but better him as a young man in life. Tai will attend the University of Tennessee at Martin, where he plans to obtain his degree in Sports Management, or Business Management. Tai has goals of becoming a football coach or to own his own business.

2007 Scholarship Recipients

CMY did not have an annual banquet in 2007. There was no formal recognition for the students who received scholarships. However, three students,Jenae Anderson, Mark Brown II and Eric Byas, received scholarships of $1000 each.

2006 Scholarship Recipients

Austin E. Allen graduated from Austin-East Magnet High School in May 2006. He was an honor student with a 3.6 GPA and was in the 1st decile of his Senior Class. He was a defensive lineman on the Roadrunners Varsity Football Team and received his letterman's jacket. Austin also represented the school in many symposiums and was the Boys State Representative at Tennessee Tech University. He has always wanted to major in engineering and was accepted to Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia, where he is currently majoring in electrical engineering. Austin said CMY has always taught him to go after his desires and he did. He says even though Tech has a reputation for a rigorous academic system it has all been worthwile and he is lettingGgod lead him to his heart's desire. He is asking you all to keep him in prayer as he pursues his goal.

Devin Deathridge was a charter student of the Crutcher Memorial Youth Enrichment Center and a member of the 2006 graduation class of Austin-East Magnet High School. He is now a freshman at Savannah College of Arts and Design majoring in Industrial Design. Devin's ambition is to become one of America's top designers in the automobile industry. CMY was a great influence in his desire to strive for excellence.

Britney Jones graduated from Central High School in May 2006. she is currently attending the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. Britney is majoring in Physical Therapy. She attended CMY during her 5th, 6th and 7th grade years. The guidance and knowledge she gained at CMY will never be forgotten.

Samuel P. McKenzie, Jr. attended the Crutcher Center for five years dating back to the Magnolia Avenue location during his elementary and middle school years. Samuel graduated in May 2006 from Antioch High School in Nashville, TN. Samuel is currently a freshman at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) where he is a Recording Industry major in the Mass Communications Department. His love of music began while attending the choir and instrument (trumpet and piano) enrichment programs at CMY and the Community School for the Arts.

2005 Scholarship Recipients

CMY did not have any graduating seniors in 2005; therefore no scholarships were given.

2004 Scholarship Recipients

Jeremy Allen is an honors graduate of Austin-East Magnet High School where he graduated eleventh in his class with a 3.6 GPA. In addition to being an honor student, Jeremy was active in the Music Department at Austin-East, excelling in the band and orchestra. Because of his active participation and excellence in the school, community, and church, Jeremy was awarded several academic and community service scholarships. He is currently a freshman at East Tennessee State University, majoring in Pre-Med with a concentration in Chemistry. Jeremy is a member of the Tri Delta Biological Society at ETSU.

Woodrow Z. (Chase) Wilson, III is a 2004 graduate of Knoxville Catholic High School where he was an honor student and member of the baseball team. Chase is currently enrolled at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in the Minority Engineering Scholarship Program. This is a very demanding program and Chase admits that it requires many hours of study, but he says, "I am devoted and will stay dedicated to the hard task that remains ahead of me in life." Chase is very grateful for the Crutcher Memorial Youth Enrichment Center and acknowledges that the help and support received from CMY has helped to get him where he is at this point in his life; a very good place.

Terry Wayne Wright, Jr. is a 2004 Graduate of Austin-East Magnet High School where he was an athlete and active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students. He is currently a freshman at UT Chattanooga, majoring in Physical Therapy.

2003 Scholarship Recipients

Nelson Hall is a 2003 graduate of Knoxville Bearden High School where he was a two-year football letterman and was awarded the honor of "Bulldog of the Year", the coaches award for his leadership and commitment to the team's success. Nelson used the scholarship funds from CMY to attend Pellissippi State Community College in Knoxville. He worked as a retail store manager for three years before he took the position as a Engineering Technician for a federal government contractor in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Nelson is currently pursuing other opportunities within the Department of Energy contractor community.

Markeisha Deathridge*

Daisha Navarre

* Markeisha Deathridge is a former student of the Crutcher Memorial Youth Enrichment Center. She is also CMY's first college graduate scholarship recipient. She is a member of the 2006 graduation class of Hampton University inHampton, Va. where she majored in Psychology. Markeisha plans to attend Georgia State University to pursue a doctorate in Physical Therapy. Currently, Markeisha works as an intern at East Tennessee Mechanical Contractors, Inc. and volunteers as a Physical Therapy Aide at the Healthsource Rehabilitation Center of Knoxvile.
