Aid and Assist"
All of those who graduate from the Citizens Police Academy (CPA) are alumni
of the CPA for life. However, a group of graduates have formed the Citizens
Police Academy Alumni Association (CPAAA) in order to better fulfill the
mission they undertook when graduating from the Citizens Police Academy
Member
Information - Included here is information on meetings and
activities open to current members of the Alumni Association.
Alumni Association Goals
- To maintain a relationship
with the Knoxville Police Department as a support group.
- To stimulate education in the
practices and procedures of the Knoxville Police Department and other law
enforcement related community issues.
- To develop closer contact
between Citizens Police Academy graduates.
- To increase public awareness
and police/community rapport, and
- To further accomplish the
goals set forth for graduates of the Citizens Police Academy.
Ongoing Activities
Alumni Association members often perform volunteer service
for the police department in many capacities. See a list of volunteer

newsletter produced by the Alumni Association serves to keep all past
graduates of the CPA informed of the goings on within the Alumni Association,
the CPA, and the police Department
Objectives
Upon successful completion of the Citizens Police Academy, each
graduate will:
- Gain a better understanding
of how the Knoxville Police Department is organized and how
each unit functions, as well as achieve an appreciation for the
daily challenges facing Law Enforcement Professionals.
- Possess the ability to
participate and provide informed assistance in the organization of
neighborhood watch groups as well as be a source of knowledge in additional
crime prevention initiatives such as prevention through environmental
design, and residential and business security.
- Posses the skill and desire
to identify, recruit, and mentor potential candidates for employment
within the Knoxville Police Department as well as future participants in
the Citizen's Police Academy.
- Demonstrate the enhancement
of their observational skills and make a commitment to report any
suspected criminal behavior.
- Possess the knowledge and
information to serve as a participant in the decision making process for a
variety of community policing initiatives to include:
a: Court Monitoring
b: Alcohol and Other Drug Awareness Programs
c: Traffic Safety
