Citizens Police Academy

Alumni Association

A Message from Chief Owen

The Citizens Police Academy is an outstanding way for the Knoxville Police Department to educate members of our community of the services that we provide to our citizens.  We believe the more information the public has about the KPD, less fears and misconceptions will exist.  By attending the academy, participants learn first hand why officers “can” and/or “can not” do certain things.  The Citizens Police Academy operates on the premise that informed educated citizens will be more supportive of police officers and the department.  Additionally, those completing the program have the potential of becoming more productive within their own neighborhoods and communities.  Graduates of the academy are encouraged to share their knowledge and experiences with the community as the opportunity arises.  Everyone benefits from enhancing citizen understanding of the role and function of their police department.

We appreciate the tremendous time and effort that our CPA Alumni members contribute to this department and to our city.  In 2005, CPA Alumni members along withvolunteers in the Volunteers in Police Services program donated more than 3200 hours of service to our community.  With your participation, we continue to make our community a better place to live, raise children and conduct business.

Sterling P. Owen, IV
