IEP Goals:  Scribe at Home
(Use this ONLY as a guideline: read it carefully, while examining your students needs)

Student: "student's name"
School:

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS:

"student's name" has (above) average oral language and communication ability but has difficulty with reading, writing, and spelling.  Written language does not reflect “the student’s” language ability.

Mike Matvy explained the process of using a scribe to enable a student to learn how to produce written language that is as good as his/her oral language.

RECOMMENDATIONS for School Program:

IEP remains effective
Goals were added for written expression using alternative methods of writing
Under the supervision of                            (a parent) "student's name" will complete written assignments by dictating to (a parent) who (1) types or writes word for word what the student says (2) reads the dictation back to the student, (3) rewrites or revises the dictation at the students direction, and (4) does not interfere with the authoring of the text by offering suggestions, comments, or judgments about the content (even if asked).  The scribe will place a statement at the bottom of each document scribed, saying (Scribed by                (scribe’s name)                 , word-for-word)

GOAL SHEET FOR IEP AND TRANSITION ACTIVITIES

Area of Need: Written Expression (Language Arts)

Implementer(s) Responsible: General Ed/Resource/AT/Parent

Annual Goal: Given a writing assignment, "student's name" will produce written language (on near, or above) grade-level using alternative methods of writing.

Benchmarks/Short-Term Instructional Objectives:
Given a parent or other person for transcribing dictation, "student's name" will:
(1) dictate, so a scribe can correctly sequence the words in each sentence - stating and restating sentences, and/or speaking slowly, without forgetting the sentence.
(2) organize thoughts and ideas to produce sentences and paragraphs.
(3) ask the scribe to reread what has been dictated without eliciting comments, etc.
(4) direct revisions, additions, or amendments to the writing until a final draft is acceptable to the dictator.

Method of Evaluation Code:      4.  Other (written work, reports from Assistive Technology Specialist observations)
