Mapping

The East Tennessee Development District staff develops the maps necessary for grant applications prepared by the District on behalf of the municipalities and counties within our District. In addition, the District also develops maps that designate existing infrastructure within the District's 16 county region. Many other maps of the region are maintained on site and may be utilized by the public at the District's office.

Some of the maps created by our staff for grant applications include: neighborhood layout; proposed water and sewer lines; architectural floor plans for potential recreational facilities and historic buildings; park layouts for ball fields, playgrounds and trails; as well as any other projects where mapping or graphic presentations are needed in the preparation of grant applications.

The East Tennessee Development District generates the following maps that are developed in-house from a combination of TDOT based county highway maps and a Microstation generated overlay:

Utility Maps: Indicate existing water, wastewater and gas lines. These maps also indicate tanks, treatment plants and service boundary lines.

Fire Boundary Maps: Indicate the fire district boundary as well as the location of fire stations within the county.

Growth Boundary Maps: Indicate planned, urban and rural development within each county in the District.

Solid Waste Maps: Indicate solid waste facilities within each county and within the region served by the District.

Highway Maps: Indicate proposed construction, pre-construction in the engineering and design phase, highway construction and right of ways.

The Highway maps are updated several times a year and all other overlay maps are typically updated every two or three years. These maps are distributed to city and county officials upon request in either an electronic file or a hard copy.

The District also maintains a collection of regional USGS topographic maps, TDOT city and county maps and FEMA flood plain maps. These maps are most often utilized in the preparation of grant applications and in the completion of Environmental assessments and are available for use at the District's office.
