Research and Demographics

The East Tennessee Development District staff operates the Data Affiliate Program through the U.S. Census Bureau. This program provides the ETDD office with extensive census information in exchange for ETDD staff providing technical assistance to individuals requesting information. After each decennial census, census summary reports are prepared for each county. These reports are distributed to local officials, libraries and others upon request.

The staff surveys, analyzes and compiles statistical information on the region and prepares and distributes numerous reports. These publications and reports include:

a. "Economic Statistics," a semi-annual publication summarizing various federal, state, and local data sources, provides economic data for each county in the region. View here: Economic Statistics

b. "Utility Rate Survey," updated annually by surveying each water, sewer, and gas utility within the region to obtain current rate information. View Here: Utility Rate Survey

c. "Housing Activity Inventory," updated annually by surveying and compiling information on housing providers in the region.

d. Conducts annual apartment survey to determine average rent and vacancy rate information by county.

e . Collects, publishes and distributes the "Subsidized Housing Inventory" every odd number year.

f . Population Estimates for the East Tennessee Development's region. View here: Population Estimates

g. UT Center for Business and Economic Research - Various research information, links and Publications.

h. Tennessee State Data Center

i. 2005 Small Area Icome & Poverty Estimates

The staff provides extensive technical assistance upon request to local governments, business and individuals concerning the availability and use of information and statistics about the region.

The staff actively encourages the coordination of statistical and research information between agencies to provide better referral of information available for the region. The staff accomplishes this through close coordination with the Tennessee State Data Center, the U.S. Census Bureau and participation in the Greater Knoxville Research Network.
