TransportationIn December 2005, the Tennessee Department of Transportation established twelve Rural Planning Organizations (RPO) across the state. The RPO’s provide a forum for local consultation, and it ensures that local stakeholders will be a part of the state’s transportation planning process. The RPOs are comprised of an Executive Board and a Technical Committee. Executive Board membership consists of county mayors, municipal mayors, state legislators, and other stakeholders. The Technical Committee membership consists of county and city appointees who are most knowledgeable about transportation issues in their community. There are also representatives for other modes of transportation, such as aviation and bike/pedestrian, as well as a citizen representative. ETDD coordinates two RPO’s, which are divided into counties north and south of the Knoxville Regional Transportation Planning Organization boundaries. The North RPO consists of Campbell, Claiborne, Grainger, Hamblen, Morgan, Scott and Union Counties. The South RPO consists of Anderson, Blount, Cocke, Jefferson, Loudon, Monroe, Roane, and Sevier Counties. Please contact us if you would like more information about the RPO’s.
