The Anderson County 4H Horse Project meets all year long and at the present time has 50 members. All 4Hers come each Saturday morning. Every member comes to the Thursday evening session. Some of the older 4H members, who have been in 4H for several years, help with the training on Saturdays and oversee the meetings on Thursday evenings.
The Saturday sessions are "hands-on" where members learn how to care for and work with a horse. These are the days for learning how to ride, fine tuning riding skills, preparing and practicing for shows, and learning everything from showmanship and halter to western, English, saddle seat and many other types of riding.
the question has been asked, "Do I have to have a horse to be in 4H?" the answer is "no". Some of the 4Hers do have their own horses, but others use the horses that belong to members of ETRC. There are stipulations, though. If a 4Her uses someone else's horse, they are responsible for tacking up the horse, brushing the horse and cleaning its hoofs, putting away all equipment used, cleaning the horse's stall, and putting the horse in the stall or paddock at the end of the 4H session.
All 4Hers must wear helmets when they ride!
