EAST TENNESSEE CHAPTERFront Page Follies
The Front Page Follies is an annual roast in which a cast of journalists and community members poke fun at people and events in the current year of news. All ticket sales benefit journalism education. Currently, Front Page Follies ticket proceeds go toward an endowment fund at the University of Tennessee, which is growing to a level at which it will become self-perpetuating, generating funds for the scholarships itself. Our goal is to fund two endowments of $25,000 each. The East Tennessee chapter has been providing scholarship support through the Front Page Follies since 1979. In the show’s early years, the scholarship was awarded to either a journalism or a broadcasting student in honor of a prominent and worthy East Tennessee journalist. Over time, as the Follies show generated more income, the chapter increased the award from $1,000 for a single student to $1,500 each for two students, one in journalism and one in broadcasting. Several years ago, we added another award to benefit students at Pellissippi State Technical Community College. We are excited to have come so far and hope you’ll join us in making this year’s show a success! Each year the Follies scholarship is awarded in the name of an exceptional East Tennessee journalist, and we're proud to have honored such great talent in our area. The 2007 Front Page Follies will be held on July 21 at the Knoxville Convention Center. The honoree is still to be announced. Last year's attendance was the highest in several years and thanks to buyers of tickets, our first UT Journalism/Broadcasting scholarship endowment fund is nearly fully funded. We're counting on officials and politicians to continue providing fodder for our satirists for the upcoming 29th annual dinner and show. Since reserved tables of ten at $1,000 are assigned as payment is received, reserve your seats now! For ticket information, please contact Jennifer Horner at UT. Please check back later for details about the honoree.
We always hold an auction before the show, so bring your competitive spirit as well as your checkbook or credit card! To make a donation now, please click the button below: |
