Toy Tech - 2006
Six students in the Beta Club at Vine Middle
Performing Arts and Sciences Magnet School helped with Toy Tech this year.
Under the guidance of their teacher, Antoinette Williams, they donated 7
toys and batteries for volunteers to adapt. These adapted toys were given
to children with disabilities at our annual Toy Tech Holiday party. One of
the students, Corey Hodge, wrote, "I was a part of something that put a
smile on kids' faces." Sylvia Penner thanked us for the opportunity to give
back to the community. On behalf of all the children who benefited from
these toys, we want to thank Briana Flannagan, Corey Hodge, Xzavian Wrushen,
Sylvia Penner, Sarai Marcano, and Eugene Pettit.
Seventeen volunteers associated with Boeing, Oak Ridge, donated at least 50 toys,
money to purchase switches or special adaptations for specific children and
time to adapt toys for ETTAC's annual Toy Tech holiday party. Brian Yount
represented Boeing at the party on Monday, December 4. These folks embody
the spirit of the holidays! Thank you, Boeing volunteers!
Thanks to the generosity of the Big Orange Tip-Off Club and the support of
Lloyd Richardson, 22 children with disabilities, their families, and
friends were able to attend a U.T. Men's Basketball game on Saturday,
December 16 at Thompson Boling Arena. Thank you, Big Orange Tip-Off Club,
for your generosity!
A special thank-you goes to Stacy McCloud and WVLT Volunteer TV News for
their coverage of Toy Tech and to Stacy for coming to the Toy Tech party as
one of Santa's helpers. She spent time reading holiday stories to the
children and had time for hugs as well! Thank you, Stacy and WVLT, for all
your support!
Debbie Lane's Tanasi Girl Scout troupe came to the Toy Tech party with
crafts for everyone to enjoy. Thank you, Debbie, for coordinating this and
to your troupe for their help!
Under
the coordination of Melissa McKay, Junior League of Knoxville once again
provided volunteers to help with the Toy Tech party in addition to donating
about 55 toys. These wonderful volunteers rolled up their sleeves, helped
to set up for the party, decorated, brought and served food, provided
crafts, and helped clean up at the end. Thank you, Junior League, for your
generosity and continued support for this event. Over 170 people attended
the party at Central Baptist Church in Fountain City on December 4. We
could not do this without you! Thank you, Junior League!
We had a special guest at the Toy Tech party who took time to meet each child,
listen to special requests, and have his picture taken with them. Santa
Bill even went to visit some of the children at home or in the hospital who
couldn't come to the party! Thank you, Santa, for spending your time with
us and for your heart for the children!
