President’s
Report to Members
Fellow Woodworkers,
The April ETWG Board meeting was the first meeting after installing the new Board members and identifying their individual assignments. I can truly say I am excited about the next months. Everyone has brought so many good ideas to the table. I think the biggest problem will be ‘weeding’ them to a few top ideas.
· Lou Mansur, Chair of the Programs Committee, has already brought us one great program, Leon Bates (now an ETWG member), and has a second one, ready for us at the May meeting, and a plan for the July meeting program;
· Ron Clayton, Chair of the Education Committee, has developed and is ready to test a terrific new skills development approach, that will help him and the Education Committee (including Vic Kaminsky) to give us some excellent ideas for The Guild Workshops;
· Bruce Cole and Jay Harkins, Web Master, have already switched over the web site to www.etwg.org and you can see their efforts immediately. Check out the web site to see:
· ETWG By-laws
· ETWG Standard Practices
· 2008 Newsletters
· Information and Application for Membership form
· Woodworking Links to:
o Woodworking Schools
o ETWG Member’s personal web sites
o Sources for wood and sharpening services.
· Bruce Cole, Chair of the Exhibit Committee, is exploring our next possible exhibit and appropriate locations;
The
Board has approved a new
Information and Application for Membership form.
As
in previous years, we will
continue our relationship with our Guild sponsors and are pleased that
they
will again honor our membership cards as follows:
·
Woodcraft of
·
A & M Supply – access for ETWG members to their
wholesale-only
facility
As
most of you know, the East
Tennessee Woodworkers Guild was chartered in 1983 (
·
A
woodworkers’ weekend or similar type event
·
A
social event for ETWG members
·
An
exhibit of all ETWG members works, both current and over the last 25
years
·
A
15th Master Woodworkers Showcase
If
you have suggestions or
ideas, or want to help in this effort, please let us know.
We
continue to be in need for
any ETWG historical items, etc., as we prepare to develop a new
historical
document and/or exhibit. Just give me a call.
We
also need someone to
assist Richard Harbison as a backup Assistant Librarian.
Lee
Gossage has accepted the
position of Newsletter Editor and this is his first edition, so please
provide
any newsletter items to him via email or snail mail.
Thanks to Lee!
Don’t
forget that
The Board has also voted and passed some ETWG By-laws changes (changes are noted in Bold print), as follows:

continuance of a great year and hope to see all of you at the May
meeting.
Best
regards and keep your woodworking both fun and safe,

DML
