Our Ministry
In the Baptist tradition, all of God’s people are ministers. Our three vocational pastors are called to equip the people of God in Christian service. Each pastor has entered the vocational ministry by the calling of God and has been ordained to the Gospel ministry. Although each pastor has an area of focus and special training, all of our pastors minister to the whole congregation.
Worship
Worship is at the center of who we are and what we believe. We believe that the church is always more than an address or a building. The church is the people of God gathered for worship, education, and Christian service. Our worship seeks the reverence worthy of God in a spirit of personal warmth.
Sunday morning worship involves all ages both in attendance and participation. Children’s and Youth Choirs are frequent leaders of our worship experience, and the children’s sermon is a special part of worship that says to the child, "This is my church." Youth from grade six through high school are led by our Family Pastor in teen worship events on Sunday and Wednesday evenings to address their special needs and concerns.
The Sunday evening service is usually an informal worship gathering, but often involves times of church fellowship, picnics, special music presentations, and special studies.
Wednesday Family Activities begin with a meal prepared and served from the church kitchen in the Fellowship Hall. During children’s choirs and youth activities, the congregation remains in Fellowship Hall for prayer and an informal period of spiritual growth and discipleship training.
Missions
We are Great Commission Christians who consider missions to be essential to our identity as the Body of Christ. We believe that missions ought to minister to the whole person–body, mind, and spirit. We are in constant search of ways to give cups of water in the name of Jesus.
We support missionaries through the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and the Southern Baptist Convention, but missions at First Baptist is more than giving money through the church. Missions is what we do. We have recently completed the sponsorship and construction of our first house for Habitat for Humanity. Our members serve in the name of Christ at the local hospital, in children’s ministries, in youth services, and nursing home ministries. We have sponsored refugee families. Our Agape Help Center operates totally on volunteer service to provide food and clothing for people in need.
