Matt Lavinder Matt Lavinder is in his eleventh year as the head coach of the King College Men's Soccer Program. The winningest coach in the program's 50 year history (106-70-13), Lavinder led King to AAC Championships in 2005, 2007, and 2008. In 2008, the Tornado advanced to the NAIA National Tournament. Lavinder was awarded two straight AAC Coach of the Year awards (2004, 2005) after leading the young Tornado squad to an undefeated conference record in 2005. In 2007, the Tornado advanced to their fifth regional tournament in the last five years. Lavinder holds both the USSF A License and the NSCAA Premier Diploma, the two highest coaching licenses available in the United States. In 2007, Lavinder earned the prestigious USSF National Goalkeeper Coaching License, a license designed for coaching professional level goalkeepers. Also holding the USSF National Youth License, Lavinder is on the Tennessee State Soccer Coaching Staff where he conducts several coaching courses throughout the year and volunteers for Fusion FC. A graduate of King College, Lavinder was the leading scorer, captain, All-Conference selection, and Academic All-American during his years as a player. After graduating from King, Lavinder earned his Master's of Divinity from Duke University (1996-1999) where he assisted with the women's program. In addition to coaching, he is an Assistant Athletic Director and Assistant Professor of History. In 2007, Lavinder was selected by the student body as Faculty Lecturer where he delivered a lecture entitled "The Soul of King College as a Philosophy of Coaching". A lay reader and former member of the Vestry at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Lavinder also competes in local adventure triathlons and is an avid Arsenal FC supporter. He is married to Dr. Hollie (Harrison) Lavinder who is a clinical pharmacist at Advanced Home Health Care. Married since 1997, Matt and Hollie reside in Bristol, TN and have three children, Corey Denzel (born in 2000), Laura Jess (2002), and Lana Elizabeth (2007).
