About the Greenback Public Library
The Greenback Public Library exists to provide local residents with current
and popular reading material for general information, education and entertainment.
In addition, the library provides patrons with access to information technologies
through publicly available computers with software libraries and connection
to the world wide web.
The Greenback Public library is one of 5 community libraries within Loudon
County. These community libraries are governed by a seven-member board whose
authority is defined by state statute. The Library Board formulates all
policies of the Library and administers all property and funds. Funding
for the library is provided by the City of Greenback and Loudon County.
The Board selects Library Directors who are responsible for carrying out
policy decisions and day-to-day administration of the individual libraries.
The Library Director for the Greenback Public Library is Mrs. Clara Sue
Hammontree.
Loudon is one of 9 counties which make up the Fort Loudoun Region within
the Tennessee Regional Library System. These regional systems are governed
by the Tennessee Department of State.
The Library Director is assisted by the Friends of the Greenback Public
Library group. This organization maintains and coordinates an active volunteer
program to assist the Director in providing maximum services for library
users. They also provide funding for special needs not possible within the
Library's regular budget. Judy Curtis is president of the group.
The Bill & Melinda Gates
Foundation of Seattle, Washington, has provided 4 public access workstations
for use by library patrons.
