THANKS It is extremely hard to express the gratitude the Troop has for the dedicated adults who spend countless hours in the field with your sons on numerous campouts and summer camp during each year. A special thanks to Ed Shoemaker who has hosted many meetings this year while I have been traveling with TVA. Ed also has lead several campouts when I haven't been available. Thanks to J.D. Stombaugh for going to summer camp with us. Without these leaders we wouldn't have the camping program that we have. Thanks, also, to everyone else who helps out with whatever we may need to make certain that we continue to deliver a quality program for the scouts.
WELCOME We want to welcome Clay Gilmore to our Troop.
CAMPOREES - SPRING/FALL 2006 Everyone who attended both camporees had a good time. The Spring Camporee was a great success and even though we didn't win the Tower again, everyone worked so well together that we came in very close to the winning Troop. Likewise the Fall Camporee went well.
SUMMER CAMP 2006 Summer Camp at Buck Toms took place June 18th - June 24th . I can say that everyone had a great time. Most of the Merit Badges were finished, and during winter break it would be a good time for the scouts to finish up what is needed on their badges. Each scout knows what he needs to do.
ADVANCEMENT Congratulations to Jacob Stombaugh who earned TF rank, and Joseph Stombaugh who earned his Star rank. The scouts also completed 14 Merit Badges such as, Citizenship in the Nation, Emergency Prep, Art, Archery, Canoeing, Lifesaving, Rowing, Small Boat Sailing, Motor boating, Pioneering, and Rifle Shooting.
EAGLE PROJECT Congratulations to Nick Shoemaker for starting to work on his Eagle Project which was approved by the district. If all goes according to plan Nick should be ready for his Eagle Board before the summer. SCOUTMASTER CORNER Over the years I have seen improvement of the Scouts as they get older. When they first start they are very green. After a few years they can function by themselves and have great pride in their accomplishments. As the scouts get older they will reflect on their scouting years and it will have a positive outlook. In some cases they will pursue a career that they were exposed to by merit badges, whether it be the Medicine merit badge or a Citizenship badge. Keep up the good work.
