The Parish Nurse Program at Holy Ghost Catholic Church began in the fall of 2003. Sherri Mary Goodin, RN and Letha Lehman, RN were approved to take a Parish Nursing Course conducted at St. Mary's Medical Center. After completing the course in Parish Nursing, they begin practicing as Parish Nurses. Mary Roberts, RN, later took the Parish Nursing course and began seeing patients on behalf of the church. Other nurses assisting with this program, but not specifically trained as Parish Nurses, were Stephanie Clancy, RN and Jeannie Hannah, LPN. Mary Roberts, RN, Parish Nurse, Stephanie Clancy, RN, and Jeannie Hannah, LPN, are not active in this program at the present. Currently Letha Lehman, RN, MS, Parish Nurse, and Jeanne Bach, RN, are actively seeing patients on behalf of the Parish Nurse Program. Dora Dugan, RN-Retired, is responsible for the telephone follow up of patients who are considered stable and do not require active visitation. Criteria for Admission to the Parish Nurse Program 1. HGCC Priest referral for assessment 2. Referral by HGCC Parish member and approved for visit by HGCC Priest3. Institutionalized Parish members (hospital, nursing home, rehabilitation facility, hospice etc.) referred to Parish Nurse program and approved by Priest. Criteria for Discharge from the Parish Nurse Program 1. Patient/family desires discharge2. Patient no longer homebound3. Patient no longer institutionalized such as hospital, rehabilitation facility, hospice, nursing home4. Any perceived unsafe conditions where visitation taking place5. Death of patient (One post death visit to family if requested/indicated) Purpose of the Parish Nurse Program at HGCC 1. Medical assessment and referral to appropriate community resource2.
