Vandalism rears its ugly head with turfing lawns and snowmen. Now we have a rash of damaged (smashed and burned) mailboxes and a burning trash can. See the Neighborhood Watch Forum page for more information.
Post Lanterns
See information about proposed standards for Hickory Woods post lanterns on the Post Lanterns page. The issue of stray light has been raised.
Read the information on the Forum page about the fireants found in the Berkeley Park subdivision. They are dangerous. If you find any on your property, let us know and call the phone number listed for help.

I received this information about pine bark beetles from the Extension Office. Since we have so many pine trees in Hickory Woods, I wanted to pass on the information.

If you see or hear of any strange activity in the neighborhood, call your Neighborhood Watch Area Rep right away. That gets the information process rolling. NW rep names are in your Hickory Woods directory.

21st Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Is it Spring yet? Crocus are blooming and daffodils (referred to as buttercups in Alabama) are peeping through the ground. It must be time for our annual Easter Egg Hunt! The event is graciously hosted by Jim and Ann Durall who will be celebrating their 21st year of hiding Easter Eggs for the neighborhood children.

The Hunt is scheduled for Saturday, April 3, from 10 AM to 12 PM, for children 12 years of age and under. The fun will start promptly at 10 AM, so bring your Easter basket and join us at the Durall’s home. Ann and Jim will provide drinks and coffee for the adults and would like to request that if possible, you bring homemade cookies to share.

Congratulations to Ann Durall on being chosen as the 2010 Beta Sigma Phi First Lady of Knoxville. The annual honor recognizes a woman for community service and leadership. If you didn't catch the article in th Sunday, February 7th, 2010 News-Sentinel, click here for the link to the online story. Ann is a long-time resident in Hickory Woods and hosts the Easter Egg Hunt every year. (A warning note, if you are late to the Easter Egg hunt, you are too late. It starts exactly on time!!!)

We received a Christmas card from our friends the Klassons. See it here.

On Vandalism and Robberies in Hickory Woods

Someone drove over our mailbox on Smith Rd last night (12/28/2009). It's possible it was unrelated to the vandalism seen in Hickory Woods, but I doubt it. I called Knox Co Sheriff's office to file a report but haven't heard from them after they took my number to call me back. I also left a message on the Rollins' answering machine to notify them. The tire tracks look to be from a Jeep Wrangler, or some type of vehicle with all-terrain tires.

--- George Brown

On Tuesday, December 14, 2009, Officer Cook and Mrs. Nancy Brown of the Knox County Sheriff's Special Services Division met with neighbors at Farragut High School about ways to deter vandals and thieves. Mrs. Brown handed out a packet of neighborhood watch information. The packet includes a sheet to list your treasured possessions, advice about engraving those objects with your license number, and about photographing items, such as jewelry, that cannot be engraved. It also includes a warning sticker to display on your window.

Officer Cook said that if you are robbed, the department can often recover the items if you will follow the directions on the sheet marked Operation Identification. (If you could not attend, you can get the packet from your area block captain.)

We will have another meeting in January to discuss two ideas favorably received at the meeting. They are:

1. Better Lighting for Hickory Woods

We checked with Farragut about additional lighting. Since the Town does not provide security lighting, Acting Town Manager Gary Palmer kindly checked with LCUB, who said they will install a security light at the request of the individual homeowner. Security lights are present on Creekwood Terrace and on Valley Trail. The following rates apply:

  • $6.10 a month for a 100 watt security light
  • $6.96 a month for a 175 watt security light
  • $14.04 a month for a 200 watt security light

A one-time fee of $25 will apply if the light is placed on an existing pole. A one-time fee of $100 will apply if a pole has to be erected.

If you want a light installed, first contact your area's neighborhood watch captain and let him or her know your plans so that we can avoid possible over lighting. Then, to ask questions or place an order, call Bill Cunningham at LCUB,  865-988-0732.

2. Red Flag Citizens Watch Brigade

Officer Cook said Concord Hills subdivision has had a day and a night watch using volunteers or hired off-duty officers for several years. This program has proven itself a successful deterrent.

The volunteers drive through the neighborhood and park inside the neighborhood to watch for suspicious activity. If they see any, they call the sheriff's office from their cell phone and write a license number down if they can. Then they place a red flag at the neighborhood entrance to show there has been a problem. Their very presence is a deterrent, he says, and so is a printed sticker inside the rear window that states the driver is a Concord Hills Neighborhood Watch volunteer. As their neighborhood is large, a volunteer only has to serve one time a year.

Here are some gathered tips to remember and to share with your teens:

  • Don't let anyone outside of Hickory Woods have access to our Homeowner's Directory.
  • Don't leave cash, check books, change jugs or banks where they can be viewed through a window.
  • Always lock your car, and don't leave purses or other valuables in the car overnight or in view.
  • Keep garage doors closed and locked and also the door leading from your garage into your home.
  • Do you have clear garage windows? They allow thieves to see what you have inside.
  • Fake cameras don't work; they are easily recognized.
  • A working camera set up at the neighborhood sign would be expensive and impractical.
  • Don't tempt thieves by leaving boxes for curb pickup which show what you have bought and now have in your home. This especially is risky at or after Christmas!

Going Out of Town?

  • Ask near neighbors to look after your house and leave a cell phone number in case you need to be called.
  • Stop the newspaper while you are away.
  • Stop the mail while you are away.
  • Consider installing outside motion lights and/or leave outside lights on overnight.
  • Consider using light timers inside your house and/or leave a radio on.
  • Ask your closest neighbors to keep an eye on your house.
  • Have a secret hiding place for jewelry, prescription drugs, and money. (Your bank?)

We are All the Eyes and Ears of Hickory Woods

  • If you spot anything suspicious, try to get a license number, note a description of the person or vehicle, and call the sheriff's office immediately. Afterward, contact your area's watch captain because though the sheriff's office does notify the caller of any action but does not notify the neighborhood.
  • Vandals are usually around 14 or 15 years old. If you catch vandals in action, you are not allowed to touch them. However, you can follow them. Only officers can apprehend vandals, so immediately call the sheriff's office.

Christmas News

The Christmas party will be held on Dec. 11th at the Farragut Town Hall at 6:00 PM, in the Community Room. The Homeowner’s Association will provide will provide the meat entrée (chicken) and each family is asked to bring a vegetable, dessert or salad to share.

We will again have our White Elephant gift exchange, so please bring a gift if you would like to participate. Look around for that old or outdated gift that you’ve been putting off getting rid of and wrap it up to share with one of your neighbors. It was also decided at the homeowner’s meeting that we would bring gifts so the children could also participate. If you are bringing children, please bring a new gift for each of them to exchange. If you have any questions, please contact Julia Taylor or Jane Parker.

Mailbox Bows

Our mailboxes will be decorated with bows after Thanksgiving. We generally like to have those on by the end of the first week in December. Your area representative will attach the bow to your mailbox. If the bow happens to fall off, please try to re-attach it. Please leave the bow on until your representative removes it after Christmas. If you do not want a bow on your mailbox, please let your representative know.

Area representatives, if any bows need replacing, please contact Melissa Mustard, Becky Greene or Ann Durall.

Mailbox Vandalism

Vandals put a plastic bag filled with paper and leaves, added some gas (police said this) and set the paper box on fire. The plastic melted completely and the post was damaged also with the heat. I called the police which came and investigated the problem. They will be coming thru during the night and hope to catch those that are doing this in our neighborhood. We are not going to clean this immediately so that those that want to see the damage can drive by and take a look. I hope that this is the last of this kind of problem but I doubt that there is reason to believe that it is over.

Ann

Neighborhood Watch

After the recent break-in and robbery on Hickory Woods Road, it seems a good idea to review the procedure for dealing with suspicious activity.

All of us in Hickory Woods are responsible for keeping watch over those around us. Any neighbor spotting something suspicious should immediately contact the Knox County Sheriff at phone number 865-215-2444 (or 911 in an emergency), then contact your block captain, listed in the directory. The watch captain will then contact Warren and Brenda Rollins, who are the current Neighborhood Watch Chairmen. Then an email will be sent to the neighborhood at large. We have block captains in all but two areas. Areas without block captains are: Area 2 (HW Woods Road from Valley Trail to HWIII), and Area 10 (Rolling Creek and Valley Brook).

Call Warren and Brenda for more information if you wish to consider volunteering for the job of block captain. The homeowners’ directory has information about Neighborhood Watch and tips to prevent your home from being targeted.

October 26, 2009. We have a new newsletter to publish! Cathy has sent me a bunch of items all in the new Microsoft .docx format that I have trouble with. Watch for this information coming soon.

Hickory Woods Homeowners Association Newsletter

April 2008

Greetings Neighbors,

Spring has sprung!! The long nights and the cold, dreary days of winter have given way to longer, warmer days, blooming flowers and budding trees. It's nice to see the grass greening up and see folks out working in their yards. As far as I'm concerned, spring can never come too soon. What a great time of the year it is!

Easter Egg Hunt

Jim and Ann Durall hosted the annual egg hunt again at their home on March, 22nd. This was my first time to attend, and I enjoyed meeting and socializing with many of our young neighbors and their parents. We had beautiful weather, and it was another big success. Jim and Ann have hosted the Easter egg hunt for 18 years running! We have a lot of great folks in our neighborhood, and it's not very hard to find volunteers to host or help out with activities, but to have someone host an event for 18 consecutive years is amazing! I want to thank Jim and Ann for their continued service. I don't think they had planned to host the egg hunt this long when they first volunteered in 1990, it just sort of happened. I asked Ann how long she planned to continue, and she said two more years. She wants to retire after an even 20 years of service. I’m sure we will not have any trouble finding another host for the 2011 Easter egg hunt.

Entrance Sign

I apologize for waiting so long to update everyone on the sign progress. The foundation and stone pillars were constructed in January by a local contractor. The stone slab and pillar caps were supplied by Tennessee Building Stone in Crossville, TN. The delay was the outside company that TN Building Stone used to engrave the sign. They kept blaming the weather and the backlog of other jobs caused by the bad weather had caused. As I'm sure you've noticed, the sign construction is complete…Finally! I think our Sign Committee headed up by Wayne Sullins has done an excellent job in carrying out this project. I have received several emails from residents of other local subdivisions praising our new sign and asking who manufactured and constructed it. We still owe the contractor $830.00, but I'm holding that until they return and remove the extra rock and hunks of mortar that I have raked into a pile for them.

In my last newsletter I announced that we did not have enough funds to complete the sign. I'm happy to report that we received plenty of money to not only complete the project, but to also add landscaping now that construction is complete. I want to thank everyone who sent in their 2007 dues. I especially want to thank a few neighbors who donated funds above and beyond their annual dues to help make the new sign possible. Those who made special donations are: Russ Bell, David Schum, Danny Henderson, the Berez family, the Prine family, Ken Haden, and Cara French. I also want to thank Don Smego for providing some of his time and heavy equipment which was a big help with razing the old sign as well as smoothing the area around the new sign.

HWHA Board

The HWHA Board is in need of a Co-Chairman and a Secretary. If you would like to nominate someone for one of these positions, please e-mail me at kndcarter@charter.net. If you are interested in holding one of these positions, please contact me and let me know. If you are not interested in holding one of these positions, but feel sorry for me to the point that you will endure one of these positions just to help out… then, by all means, contact me… please.

Upcoming Events

I need some folks to help head up or serve on committees for the following upcoming events:

1) HWHA Meeting—We are way past due for a neighborhood meeting and need someone to offer their home to host the next meeting.

2) Hickory Woods Neighborhood Yard Sale—Need a couple of volunteers to pass out flyers, place an ad in the paper, hang some balloons and place a sign or two for the annual neighborhood yard sale which is held in May. The actual date is to be determined. We will try to have it at the same time as Andover Place's for a better turn out.

3) Sparkle Day Picnic—Need several folks to volunteer for the Sparkle Day Picnic committee to help with the planning and organization of the event.

I am willing to help out with each and every event we have, but I do not have the time to head them up. If you have not had a chance to volunteer to help with or lead a neighborhood event, I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to do so. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Ken Carter

Hickory Woods Homeowners Association Newsletter
January 2008

Dear Homeowners,

I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful holiday season and that you have had time to rest and recover from the hustle and bustle.  I put up the last box of Christmas decorations just yesterday and can now breathe a sigh of relief.  However, this will be a short relief since I have a very pressing issue to deal with…  The new entrance sign.

As I mentioned in my last newsletter, the Town granted final approval of our plans to replace the Hickory Woods entrance sign. The sign committee, chaired by Wayne Sullins, worked very hard to make that happen. They also secured bids for the manufacturing of the engraved sign along with the construction and assembly of the sign foundation, the stacked stone pillars and pillar caps. The bid for the engraved sign was $1382.85 and has been paid already. The bid for the sign construction is $2240.00. The lowest bid was $1500.00, but that contractor has not returned our numerous calls. The next bid was $2240.00 and we chose to go with that. Most bids were in the $3500-$4500 range so we feel like we did due diligence in selecting a contractor. We have one problem…the HWHA bank account balance is just shy of $2000.00. We do not have enough money in the bank to cover the cost of construction, much less any landscaping to accent the new sign.

I sincerely hate having to ask for money. I also hate to say that as I write this, there are still 50 families that have not paid their 2007 HWHA dues. I know that we are all very busy and that this may have been an unintentional oversight for some. If you have not paid your dues for some other reason, I ask you to please reconsider that decision. I believe that each and every home owner will benefit from the new, more attractive entrance sign. At the top of the list of benefits is this: It will certainly make a great first impression to any prospective buyers coming into Hickory Woods, which could only have a positive effect on all of our property values.

We are going forward with the sign construction on faith that all of our homeowners will step up in support of this effort. If you have not yet paid your 2007 HWHA dues, please take a few minutes to do so as soon as possible. The 2007 dues are only $25.00. You can make your check out to Hickory Woods Homeowners Association and mail it to:
Jennifer Paxton, HWHA Treasurer. Her address is in your directory.

If you have any questions about your dues, please don't hesitate to give me or Jennifer Paxton a call. I look forward to the successful completion of the entrance sign project in the coming weeks.

Warmest Regards,

Ken Carter
HWHA Chairman

Volunteers Needed for Entrance Sign Demolition—Saturday, January 26

I apologize for the short notice, but we need a few volunteers to help remove the existing entrance sign and prepare the site for construction of the new sign. Tasks include dismantling the wooden sign, removing the electrical box and digging up the electric feed to move it safely out of the way. We will also need to dig up the existing landscaping for re-use later and remove the 1-2 foot high earth/mulch bed to level the area in preparation for the foundation construction which will begin sometime next week. I could use a few strong men and/or women with shovels to help out. If you are interested in helping, please give me, Ken Carter, a call at 671-6604 and let me know.

New Neighbors

We would like to extend a warm Hickory Woods welcome to Steve and Julie Lancaster and their children Matt, Brooke, Abby and Jessica along with their grey tabby cat, Duke. The Lancaster's purchased Tim and Sharon Light's former home on Hickory Woods Rd in December 2007. Steve and Julie's adult son, Matt, owns and operates Lancaster Tree Service. If you have any tree trimming needs, you can give Matt Lancaster a call at 617-1200.

Trash can with scattered trash

Dogs and Garbage - It´s a Messy Crime Scene

Last week on two different occasions, a dog got into some trash cans that were set out for pick-up and scattered trash across a couple of yards on Hickory Woods Rd. Description of the suspect: Reddish-brown, medium sized, mixed breed dog with a collar.

M.O: The dog is not aggressive and was just doing what most dogs do when they get out of their fenced yards and find plastic trash bags with food inside. The Victim: An unsuspecting homeowner who discovered the crime scene while backing out to go to work.

To help prevent these types of inconveniences, please take care to make sure that your discarded food is in a can with a latching lid. Or if you have a dog with a predisposition for committing these types of offenses, please take care to make sure they cannot get out of their yards without your supervision. Thanks so much for your cooperation

To the homeowners associations of Hickory Woods, Prestwick Place, Woodchase II, Andover Place and Berkeley Park (or at least I hope I have the right contacts... if I have it wrong, could you please pass along to the right people?)

Greetings to you all,
I am the Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America Troop 140. Our Troop has been assigned to work in your neighborhoods for the "Scouting for Food" drive in February, so we wanted you to know what we're doing, when and why in hopes that you will pass the word to the residents of your nice communities.

Scouting for Food is an annual event wherein Boy Scout Troops and Cub Scout Packs canvas assigned areas picking up non-perishable food to donate to local food banks for the benefit of those who are in need. A main focus of Scouting is service to others, so this is a very important event for our Troop. I believe that it is a very important event to our communities, as well, because service to others makes us all better people and builds stronger families and communities... the basic building blocks for our great nation.

As important as this service is, though, we know how busy everyone is, so we try to make it as easy as possible to participate. On Saturday morning, February 2, 2008 we will place brown plastic bags on mailboxes in your areas. The bags are printed with the specifics of the Scouting for Food initiative, but the short version is: if you will place non-perishable food items in the bag (or any kind of bag should you lose the brown one or desire to contribute more than one bag will hold), we will come by early on the next Saturday morning, February 9, 2008 to pick them up. It's as simple as that!

BSA symbol

Won't you please pass the word along to your neighbors and encourage all to participate? I know my Scouts will benefit from their efforts to serve others, and I know recipients of your generosity will also benefit. Please share with us the blessings that come to those who serve.

Thank You!!

Hickory Woods Home Owners Association Newsletter
December 2007

Hello Neighbors,

Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays to everyone. It's crunch time again! Bringing down those boxes of decorations from the attic, all those office parties, church parties, family get-togethers, shopping, writing the Christmas cards, gift wrapping, travel planning, menu planning, cooking and shopping. Yes...I know I mentioned shopping twice. Even with all the stress the season brings, you have to admit that there's something special about this time of year. It's the only thing I actually dread and look forward to at the same time. Whatever your beliefs, I hope you have a chance to share some very special times and make some special memories with your loved ones this Christmas/holiday season.

Speaking of Christmas parties...After a two year hiatus, the Hickory Woods Christmas party was held on Friday November 30th and it was a huge success! It was very encouraging to see so many neighbors of all ages come out to enjoy the festivities, fellowship and food. I believe that the unofficial count was 60. I saw many new faces and enjoyed meeting many of you for the first time. I only regret that I didn't get a chance to meet everyone.

A lot of work went into making the Christmas party a success and special thanks are in order to Melissa Mustard for taking charge and heading up the effort. Of course we can't forget to mention Mark Mustard who I'm sure Melissa put to work providing a lot of manual labor needed to set everything up. We also would like to thank Fiona Hill and Gloria Paul for helping to organize the party and hand deliver the invitations. Can't forget to thank Neil and Susie Carr for helping with the set up and clean up. Very special thanks to Karen Craze for helping to set the mood by providing the live entertainment on the electric piano.

We also want to thank the Ash and Campen families for providing door prizes. Other door prizes included gift certificates graciously provided by Ingles Grocery, Snappy Tomato and Koko Japanese Grill. Koko's is located near Lowes on Town and Country Circle and is owned by our neighbors Raymond and Mary Yap of Hickory Woods Rd.

If you didn't get a chance to attend the Christmas party, you missed a great meal, some delicious deserts and a very nice chance to meet some of our new neighbors and get reacquainted with some old ones. I hope you will have an opportunity to participate in some (or all) of the upcoming activities of 2008.

From my family to yours...Have a very, merry Christmas and a wonderful new year.

** Lost and Found **

Someone left a jacket at the Town Hall after the Christmas party Friday night. It is a ladies Croft and Barrow, black leather jacket and I have it at my house. This may belong to the person who accidentally took Susie Carr's black leather jacket. If you have a leather jacket that seems a bit different than it did before, please call Susie Carr at 675-9940.

Christmas Bows

--Neighborhood volunteers will be coming by to place Christmas bows on your mailbox very soon. This is a long standing tradition in Hickory Woods. If for some reason you object to having a red bow on your mailbox, please do not destroy it. Call me and I will have someone remove it.

Entrance Sign

--Wayne Sullins and Fiona Hill of the Sign Committee presented the new entrance sign plans to the Town of Farragut's Visual Resource Review Board (VRRB) on 11/27. The VRRB gave a thumbs-up for the plans to replace our entrance sign. This was the final step in the approval process and I'm pleased to say that we have a green light to proceed with construction. The Sign Committee will be taking bids and selecting a contractor very soon.

SMITH ROAD CHANGING -- Here is an update

The latest news from the News Sentinel about Smith Road can be found here in this article from the May 25th edition in the West Edition

At the Homeowners meeting on Tuesday, May 24th, Paul White reported at length on the upcoming widening of Smith Road.  This work will impact all the Hickory Woods owners on the north side of the road.  The work will include widening the street by 2 feet, new 18-inch wide gutters with 6-inch curbs, an 18-inch wide grass strip, a sidewalk, and where necessary, retaining walls to provide the negative slope required to make water run toward the street from the sidewalks instead of into the yards.

Along with the improvements stop signs are being considered for Hickory Woods intersection with Smith Road and also for Andover's intersection.  The stop signs are important to slow traffic and allow safe access to Smith Road from the neighborhoods and from the driveways on Smith Road.  The current speed limit on Smith Road is 25 mph, but many drivers exceed that, especially those coming from Everet Road where there is a long run before entering the area with housing fronting the street.  However, the stop sign issue is not final yet. There is a planning meeting on June 9th at Farragut Town Hall about the stop signs.  All interested Hickory Woods residents are urged to attend.

Another planning meeting is to be held on June 16th about the revised sidewalk design.  The change from 3-foot grass strip to 18 inches will save a number of trees and may change the requirement to move some power poles.  There was a discussion at the homeowners meeting about requesting that the poles be moved to the south side of the road or perhaps the utilities could be placed underground.

As an interesting anecdote about the speeding and need for stop signs on Smith Road, Paul White told of a recent meeting at his house to discuss the rework with town engineer, Darryl Smith.  After the meeting where Paul had discussed the difficulty of accessing the road because of speeding cars, Mr. Smith attempted to back out of the driveway onto Smith Road.  It took him a full 5 minutes to finally get an opening in the traffic where he could safely exit.  Paul says the point was made!

Date: Friday, January 21, 2005

Fellow Hickory Woods residents,

For some time, Farragut officials have planned to widen Smith Road and add a sidewalk. They were waiting for a grant to proceed. Because of both the current and projected growth of Farragut, town officials voted on January 13, at a Farragut Town Hall meeting, not to wait for a grant before proceeding first with the sidewalk, and then with the widening of Smith Road.

Mabel Sumner today reported upon speaking with surveyors at the site, that sidewalk construction contracts have been drawn up and signed. Exact plans have yet to be drawn. This, I believe, is where we can have our influence, though the sidewalks will shortly go in. The widening of Smith is still in the future but will follow. All will be on the Hickory Woods side.

We formed the HW Smith Road Committee at our general meeting. Paul White of 508 Smith, and Gerald Derthick of 625 Hickory Woods Road, volunteered to be on that committee. If you wish to be added, contact Paul (home phone 675-2576, e-mail paigewidener@aol.com ).

Town Hall meetings are the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. A meeting is scheduled at the Farragut Town Hall on next Thursday, January 27, to discuss the sidewalk matter. If you have concerns about the changes, I suggest you attend.  We may be able to influence the plans concerning things like green space between sidewalk and road. If you live on Smith, I suggest that you list and put some value on trees, irrigation systems, etc., that will be destroyed.

I´ve told you everything I know at present.

Warren

Have you noticed the new 25 mph signs on Smith Road. Thanks...

Traffic Calming Policy Goes to Town Board

We recently attended a meeting of the Mayor and board of Aldermen to consider among other things the new policy on traffic calming, something we need on Hickory Woods Road. The wording of the draft plan was changed at that meeting and that wording was accepted. The process has been passed.

Here is how it works:

  • Citizens complain to the township and a review begins.
  • A citizens committee is selected from the affected area to represent the area and lead the community involvement.
  • The committee or team of residents identify the concerns, the potential solutions and contact those that will be affected by the changes.
  • The Town Administrator decides at this time if the proposed solution should proceed.
  • The team and the town conduct a public hearing and a mail in vote of property owners is taken. If 70% or more of the votes approve the change, then the traffic calming change will be added to the budget and will take place eventually.
  • The Planning Commission and the Mayor and Board must approve the action for it to be implemented.

The map shown at this link isn't to scale. Be sure you understand the distances shown. This is not to any scale. The location is in Farragut, south of I40/75 and north of Kingston Pike and about half way between Watt Road and Campbell Station interchanges. If you want a high resolution version of this map to use for HWHA business, check with John Andrews or use the e-mail link at the bottom of this page.

When does the Association meet?scan04.jpg

Our meetings occur annually or more often, at irregular times. Three meetings are specified in the ByLaws. Two are actually required for the nominations and election of the officers every year. Additional meetings beyond the three may be held if required. Official business requires notification of the residents. This page describes the notification process.

What about the by-laws?

scan10.jpgThe By-Laws are the official rules for the Hickory Woods Homeowners Association. They are provided here in full. Several years ago, the HWHA bylaws really weren't sufficient and binding. Brenda Rollins, then president, started the change process and that's why we went through all that agony of getting them changed. They were basically good but needed to be updated, and our neighborhood did just that. Now, though we're over 20-years old, we've insured that our well-maintained neighborhood remains second to none in the area in attractiveness and that it remains a very desirable location to live.

Neighborhood Watch Program.

It's A Good Idea To Be A Nosy Neighbor Looking out for your neighbor's house while they look out for yours is one of the best ways to help law enforcement protect our entire neighborhood. The Neighborhood Watch Program is designed to make you and your Hickory Woods neighbors aware of what you can do together to make your homes safer. This page also gives the current news reports of happenings in our neighborhood that effect security. You can find the name of your block captain here, too. Homes for Sale.

The Homes for Sale page lists our new neighbors. When new owners move in, this page will have a welcome headline for them so we all know their names and who's house now has new owners. You can update your directory from this information. The page lists the properties that are for sale in the neighborhood and provides links to the property listing on the web if available. There is information on getting 'for sale' information onto this page as well. Annually, we update and provide a summary of the sales of homes for each year giving the highest and lowest prices paid and the number of homes sold each year. We provide some e-links to e-loan vendors and links to local general real estate sites. This is the place for the home sales forum also.
