The Hickory Woods Homeowners Association Urgent Request for Help for Haiti Victims -- From Brenda and Warren Rollins. |
Dear Hickory Woods Neighbors,
Compassion Coalition, partnering with RAM (Remote Air Medical), landed their first transport plane in Haiti two or so days ago and unloaded their packed plane of medical and other critical supplies. (See the attached photo at the end of this message.)
If you would like to provide, box, and label any of the following items and place them on our front porch, Warren and I will gladly deliver them to RAM's South Knoxville location for loading onto upcoming RAM flights. The next is this Saturday, Jan. 23, and we would need your items by mid-afternoon Friday. If you can't get them to us in time for the upcoming flight, bring them for a later flight. Each flight is scheduled for one week after the other until further notice to us by RAM. (No cash or checks, please.) If you prefer to make a monetary donation or wish to keep up with RAM's progress go to their website :

Here's what is desperately needed:
o Aspirin -- as much as you can provide
o Ibuprofen/Tylenol -- liquid for infants; tablets for adults
o Anti-diarrhea medication (like Imodium) tablets or capsules (not liquid or liquid-gels) -- as much as you can provide
o Anti-itch cream (Benadryl)
o Vaseline (we can us up to 20 pounds)
o Antibiotic cream (Neosporin) - as much as you can provide
o Ace bandages ) - as much as you can provide
o Ziplock bags -- all sizes
o Fine tip sharpies -- 20
o Alcohol in plastic bottles up to 50 bottles
o Dish towels (flour sack cotton, not washcloth type -- basically those that would leave less lint) these are for use by docs when treating patients
o Empty bottles with multi hole pop up caps, various sizes (these can be filled with water to flush debris) -- you can find smaller ones in travel item section at Wal-Mart
o Wash cloths -- will be lower priority so will be one of the last things packed
o Crutches -- have an old set at home you aren't using? If stoppers, handgrips and arm pads are in good shape, we can use these
o Eye drops -- non-medicated (saline…liquid tears) as much as you can provide
o Gauze pads -- 2x2 and 4x4 sizes
o Band-aids -- 20-30 boxes
THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU! brendawrollins@tds.net

"After an e-mail from the Compassion Coalition asking for specific supplies circulated widely through the Knoxville area Thursday, RAM received enough of the wanted items to fill the plane, with some left for return trips." Amanda Wilson, program associate for RAM's foundation said, "We know that the people of Knoxville have charitable hearts," but she marveled at how 'quickly and efficiently' the community responded to the request for help. An excerpt from "Remote Area Medical travels to Haiti" by staff writer Kristi L. Nelson featured in the Knoxville News Sentinel on Saturday, January 16th, 2010.
Due to the tremendous need--there will be other flights going to Haiti, so please do consider donating supplies in the days or weeks to come.
