Things are about to get cooking in Hickory Woods! The recipe for our fall gathering has started preheating. We will warm things up with a couple of campfires, add our family and friends, mix in the chili-cookoff, throw in a little cornbread and the fixin's for petros, toss in some pizza for the kids, stir in some great conversation and a little music, add a craft or activity for the children, and top everything off with some old fashioned caramel apples and some smores. Combine all the above and warm up to a great night with your neighbors.
***Just the facts: Things will heat up on Saturday Oct. 26th. @ 6:00pm in the cul-de-sac at 628 Hickory Woods Rd. This is for everyone - adults and children alike. Kids feel free to wear your costumes. Bring your chairs.
***For chili cook-off participants: You must bring prepared chili (all types of chili are welcome) to 628 Hickory Woods Rd. by 5:45pm. Chili will be judged immediately so please bring your entry warmed and ready to be served.
Note: We are going to do a people's choice judging, therefore we will need everyone who wishes to participate in the judging to be on site promptly at 6:00. There will be a 1st and 2nd place winner!!! If you are not bringing chili feel free to bring cornbread, a dessert, etc. to share.
Don't miss a minute of our first fall gathering!!! The recipe is much better when prepared for a crowd!
In case of rain we will heat things up on Sunday at 5:00 pm.
If you have questions or comments please call Melissa Mustard, Gloria Paul or Fiona Hill.
Here are some pictures from the event...
The chili cookoff was a great success! Nine entries were there so we had a chili feast. Bowls of good stuff dressed with grated cheese and sour cream and with Fritos and corn chips made a great meal. Desserts were provided, too. Pumpkin pie was good as were the lime torts. The winner of the chili cookoff was your humble webmaster, John Andrews, for his dutch oven chili. Second place went to Charlotte Klasson of Neighborhood watch fame.
Lots of little kids were there in costume. We liked Sponge Bob, but the others were good too. (They got to eat pizza!) Regular folks had to eat chili. The tasters of the chili all got to taste each kind of chili and then place their ticket in the holder for the one they liked best.

On Halloween, there were more costumes at the door. Here is a look at some of the pretty girls and ugly boys and cute little kids...

The plant walk was a success. See the notice on the Plant Walk page.
The 2002 easter egg hunt was held at Ann Durall's house on Saturday before Easter. The whole story is on the 2002 Easter egg hunt page including pictures of all the kids and adults. Ann wrote the story of the lost eggs. We all had fun.
The Annual Christmas Party was held at Jim and Ann Durall's home on Valley Trail on December 7th, 2001. The Homeowners Association provided a table load of goodies for those who came by for neighborhood gossip and the ornament exchange. Those who came had a good time meeting and greeting and talking about the neighborhood. For more pictures of this event please see the 2001 Christmas party picture page.
October 31, 2001 -- Trick or Treat Halloween trick or treaters were out in force this night. We took pictures to post on the web. Click here for pictures of the ones who came by my house on Valley Trail!
October 27th The annual HALLOWEEN COSTUME PARTY was in the afternoon on the last Saturday in October, 2001. It began at 2:00 PM and ran until 4:00 PM. The party was at the Fass's home on Hickory Woods Road. HWHA provided the fun and entertainment. This party was for 12 and younger, but everyone was welcome to stop by and see all the cute goblins. We took photos and the best costumes are posted here.
June 9th. SPARKLE DAY 2001 Neighborhood yards are spruced up. Yard judging started at 1:00 P.M. The picnic began at 5:00 P.M. at the end of the Valley Trail cul-de-sac. This year we had hamburgers, bratwurst, hot dogs with all the fixings. Each family brought a favorite dish to share. This year, we provided tables to sit at and eat. this year. Folks brought their own chairs to sit on. The big event was the dunking booth.
The ANNUAL EASTER EGG HUNT, was held at Jim and Ann Durall's home on Valley Trail on Saturday before Easter. As stated, it started exactly on time promptly at 10:00 A.M. (Bless her heart, Ann had her watch set to Naval Observatory Time, no less...) No one was late! Many brought some homemade cookies. Ann and Jim provided beverages. This was a fun event for the young children in the neighborhood.
It was a great success. See the pictures here:

The Out-To-Lunch-Bunch met at Apple Cake Tea Room on March 14th, 2001.
There were 18 ladies present. A great lunch and a good time was reported by all that attended. If you've never had a chance to attend one of these luncheons, try to join us the next time. It's a wonderful way to meet your neighbors and a good way to take a break from that normal routine. Come and join the fun - celebrate by getting to know a new neighbor or renewing old friendships. Everyone is welcome! For information about the next lunch for a couple of hours of fun and socializing, call Rose Wilkes at 677-3986, Helen Lann at 675-5172 or Luanne Hurst at 675-0658.In November, 2000, the lunch was at Little City in Farragut. Ten ladies and one baby attended the luncheon. The food was reported to be very good and more than enough, everyone took left-overs home. A semi-private area was provided for the group to exchange neighborhood news. Luanne says the Little City is a good place with good service. For reservations for the next luncheon in the new year, call Rose, Helen or Luanne.
Our Christmas Open House was hosted by John and Jennifer Paxton this year on December 10th, 2000. Click here for pictures of this event.
Tim and Vonnie Tharp hosted the Hickory Woods Christmas Open House on December 12, 1999. HWHA says thanks. Thanks to the Social Committee for their help, too.
The party was for children 12 and under. Children brought a bag for treats and
prizes. Families brought a bag of candy for the traditional
Ball of Hay Candy Scramble.
HWHA provided an early dinner and lots of fun games and
activities.
We keep in touch with the Farragut city council. This includes having our input on community development and changes and repairs to Hickory Woods roads and signs. We are looking at posting a "NO SOLICITING" sign at the entrance to the neighborhood, and checking on painting all the galvanized iron signposts put up by the township with the signature brown paint used on the original signs and on the entrance HICKORY WOODS sign.
The Hickory Woods neighborhood participates in the Sheriff's neighborhood watch program. Zones are established and leadership of each zone rotates within the zone. See your directory for more information about the program.
