The sparkle day picnic and lawn judging was held on a beautiful June 1st. Sparkle day, as you all know, is yard judging against some simple criteria such as mowed and trimmed lawn and shrubs, clean curbs and a few flowers. See more at Sparkle Day Info.
The Yard Judging
Fifty-six ribbons were given out for the best yards in the neighborhood. Ten were blue ribbons and 46 were red ribbons. We congratulate the winners. Our judge this year was a local landscaper who offered to do the judging anonymously. He graciously declined our gift for his services. I wish we could give him credit, but he asked that his name not be used.
The Picnic
Baking Contest
This year there was a baking contest for the best deserts. The winners are:
First place: Ellen Morar
Second place: Shelley Casteel
Third place and still delicious: Vonnie Tharp
Sour grapes, though, I still think Dixie's lemon cake was pretty good!!!
Door Prizes
Door prizes were given to adults and to kids. I have no names for the adults, but Shannon Palko and Colton Paul both won door prizes.

Here are some of the pictures. I have to apologize for not showing them all, but these are some of the better ones. We have 75 pictures if anyone wants to see more.
The Castle Walk was fun for the kids. The food was great with cold soda, hot dogs and Corkies barbecue provided by the HWHA. Everyone brought a side dish or a dessert. The desserts were all entered into a 'bake-off' to give one the best of the best. I liked the lemon cake best because Dixie made it. The winner was a beautiful fruit trifle that earned the blue ribbon.
The kids had a great time in the Castle Walk while Chef Mike cooked the hot dogs on the grill.
Taking a rest from the intense activity, mostly to get out of range of the water baloons; some of the many bikes; Ashley, recovering from gall bladder surgery, looked radiant; the trash can is not filled with just cotton candy sticks, there is other stuff in there...
