Long Description or Press Release:
Kite making is both a science and an art as the kite maker attempts to engineer a design with efficient aeronautical capabilities as well as a design with pleasing aesthetics.

Teens are invited to make and decorate your own kite at a Kite Making workshop on Saturday, March 13, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Co-sponsored by Fine Arts Blount (FAB) and the Blount County Public Library, the workshop will be at the library.

Students in middle school and high school must register and submit a $5 (five dollar) deposit at the library’s reference genealogy desk by Wednesday, March 10. The maximum number of participants is 25, so participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you register, please show up; if you are unable to participate, please notify the library reference desk at 273-1436.

The deposit will be refunded to those in attendance on the day of the workshop. All materials will be supplied, including a reel with string.

Teens will construct and decorate their kites on the day of the workshop. Under the instruction of Fine Arts Blount members, teens will be able to select from a couple of design structures.

By the end of the workshop, all teens will have a completed kite which will remain at the library for display from April 1 until April 10.

The kite making workshop is a preliminary to the Kite Festival, sponsored by FAB, which will be on Sunday, April 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The kite festival will be at Pearson Springs Park off Montvale Station Road and will be sponsored by Fine Arts Blount and Maryville-Alcoa-Blount County Parks and Recreation.

Free and open to the public, the program is at the Blount County Public Library, located at 508 N. Cusick Street, Maryville.
