Remote Area Medical – Feb 4 & 5
The
purpose of our Reach Across
AMerica Program
is to replicate the successful Rural AMerica
program in order to provide free dental, vision, and medical care for the un-
or under-insured, medically underserved, impoverished population across the
United States via expeditions staffed by our volunteer corps of medical
professionals and support personnel. This Program seeks to address the
immediate healthcare needs of thousands of Americans living in both rural and
urban areas. Most of the people we reach are either the working poor or the
homeless. In our recent clinics we have seen an increase in the newly jobless
and uninsured families who are unable to pay their insurance deductible.
Each
two-day expedition, for both the Rural and Reach Across AMerica Programs, sees on average between 700-1500
patients. Remote Area Medical® depends entirely upon community collaboration
where our medical expeditions are held and goes only where we have been
invited.
Remote
Area Medical will be at the Jacob Building (3301 E. Magnolia Avenue). The
following service will be provided:
Dental: Cleanings,
fillings, extractions
Vision: Free eye exam
and free eyeglasses (as time & supplies permit)
Medical: General
medical exams, Women’s health
Be
sure to arrive early. Lines can be long and start early in the morning; numbers
will be given out around 3:30 AM each day prior to the clinic opening. The
clinic opens at 6:00 AM, and patients are seen on a
first come, first serve basis. For the
best chance of being seen, plan to arrive by 3:30 AM on the day you wish to
receive treatment. Be prepared for cold
weather and bring snacks. Once registered, be prepared for long waits before
being seen by a doctor.
