S.K. Jim Bruun, PGK

District Deputy, District 16

Past Grand Knight, Council 5207

July , 2004

June 9, 2004

Dear Brothers of Council 645:

I have been proud to serve as District Deputy for these past two years. I have followed in the footsteps of other District Deputies from Council 645 such as Stuart Metz and Doc Davidson. This past fraternal year, under the leadership of Grand Knight Paul Rodarte, Council 645 has recruited more members than either of my other councils. Additionally, Council 645 has met the requirements for Star Council. I am very proud of my home council, and wish to congratulate Paul Rodarte, Troy Brenny, and John Swindeman, and all of the other hard working brothers who made this possible.

As of July 1, 2004, your new District Deputy will be Jim Bruun, Past Grand Knight of Council 5207. He will be attending our next scheduled meeting on Tuesday, June 15, 2004 at Holy Ghost. One of the projects that he will be working on over the next two years is helping Holy Ghost to form its own council. Father Mankel has expressed support for Holy Ghost having its own council by the Church's anniversary in 2007.

In 2007, Tennessee will also be hosting the Supreme Convention in Nashville at the Opryland Hotel. If you are interested in helping with this, please let me or Jim Bruun know.

There will be a First Degree at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Lenoir City on Saturday, June 5, 2004, starting at 9:00 AM. Please contact me if you plan to attend.

The installation of the newly elected council officers will be at Saint John Neumann Church on Sunday, July 11, 2004, starting at 2:00pm. All newly elected officers are expected to attend. Wives, children, and other family members are invited to attend to show support for their Officer Knight. The Bishop and a Fourth Degree Honor Guard will be in attendance, and the installation will be followed by a reception.

Vivat Jesus,

John T. Sholly

This year to date we have collected $4,800 for the Tennessee M.R. Drive. If we can raise $500 more by June 30, 2003, we will have achieved a new council record! To that end, we are asking for members of our order to make individual contributions to collect this additional amount. Please mail your donations to: Knights of Columbus M.R. Fund, P.O. box 1142, Knoxville, TN 37901-1142. Thanks for your support.

Sincerely,

John T. Sholly,

District Deputy, #16

Dear Brothers:

Our first District wide project has gotten off to a great start. The George Kurtz Columbian Squires Circle is up and running. Thanks to Council 5207 and Mike O'Hearn, we now have the second Tennessee Squires Circle right here in Knoxville. I am encouraging all councils to support this project by having your Youth Director plan and schedule a youth event where membership in this District Columbian Squires Circle is enthusiastically promoted.

After speaking to our state ceremonials director, I have learned that District 16 will not be able to conduct a Third Degree Expemplification until 2003. Please let me know if your council would like to host this event, and if so, when?

District 16 will be hosting the Our Lady of Guadalupe icon from April 16 through April 26, 2003. Please let me know if your council would like the icon for any period of time.

Vivat Jesus,

John T. Sholly,
