12/3/03 WELCOME NEW BROTHER!:
Congratulations & Welcome to Brother David Cavalari, who
was exemplified in the 1st Degree on December 2nd at
Immaculate Conception. David is a parishioner at Holy Ghost.

MADORE: SK Richard Madore, PGK, PFN (dec.) was the
honoree of the 1st Degree ceremony held at Immaculate
Conception on December 2nd. BLUE MASS COMMITTEE FORMED: An
exploratory committee has been formed to handle the
beginning planning for the District Blue Mass, tentatively
scheduled for September 29, 2004 at Holy Ghost Church. There
is a lot of planning to do (as well as confirmation of the
date, coordination with Bishop Kurtz, Father Mankel, and the
Diocesan Office. The committee consists of John Swindeman,
Paul Rodarte, John Sholly, Wes Sheedy, Troy Brenny, Malcolm
Wells, Two Bears Hebert, and Jeff Emitt. Contact John
Swindeman for more details or to volunteer to
assist. HOLY GHOST & CONVENT
CLEANUP: Help is needed to clean up our basement storage
room at Holy Ghost, clean up and arrangement of our supplies
stored at the old Convent near Holy Ghost, and moving our
supplies out of the Holy Ghost basement and into the
Convent. All members are also requested to bring any Council
Property (photos, log books, materials & supplies) to
the Convent for proper storage. The tentative date is
February 17th, in place of the usual business meeting at
Holy Ghost. Work will begin at 6:30 pm. GOOD OF ORDER: Dan Moneymaker
would have been the winner of the Good of The Order had he
been in attendance at the Business Meeting & 1st Degree
on December 2nd. You can't win if you're not

23rd! 11/18/03 CALVARY CEMETERY CLEANUP: It's
time once again to gather up the power tools and head on out
to Calvary
Cemetery for our annual
workday. The primary job is raking or blowing leaves from
the cemetery grounds out to the front gates of the cemetery
for pickup by the city. The cleanup is scheduled for
Saturday December 6th from 9 am to 3 pm. Please make plans

Sholly. DEGREE NEWS:: CHRISTMAS SOCIAL: This year's
Christmas
Social is planned for Tuesday,
December 16th at Holy
Ghost, in lieu of the Council

We have scheduled a dinner for the Students of UT, at St.
John
XXIII on March 21st. More

Congratulations to Jack McCusker, on your exemplification in
the 2nd Degree! LATIN NOVUS ORDO MASS: The
Latin Novus Ordo Mass will be celebrated at Holy
Ghost twice during Advent.
First on November 27th, and again on December 22nd. Contact
the Holy Ghost Parish for more details. MID-YEAR MEETING: The
K
of C State Mid-Year Meeting
will be in Nashville at St. Edward Parish, Saturday January
10, 8:00 am to 3:30 pm CST. The Mid-year meeting is hosted
by Council 9586. DEVOTION OF DIVINE MERCY: The
Divine Mercy Icon will be in Knoxville from January 10
through January 31. The Icon is tentatively scheduled to be
at Holy
Ghost, Immaculate
Conception, and
John
XXIII from January 10 through
January 25. Plans are underway for a devotion and Holy Hour
at Holy Ghost on January 20th. More details to follow on the
devotions at Holy Ghost, as well as IC and John
XXIII. OPEN HOUSE AT HOLY GHOST:
Holy
Ghost Catholic Church will
have an Open House on Sunday, November 23rd. There will be a
display of icons from the Church, the opportunity to view
the adornments and artwork of the Church, and Vespers at
5pm. Fr. Mankel reminds us that liturgical prayer is the
highest form of prayer and surpasses all private
devotions. COUNCIL 645 HOSTING 4th DEGREE
MEETING: Council 645 will host the 4th
Degree Assembly meeting at
Immaculate
Conception on January 11th
from 4pm to 8pm. Help is needed from 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
Degree members of Council 645. TRIDENTINE MASS IN EAST
TENNESSEE: The Diocese of Knoxville will see its first
legal post-Vatican II Tridentine Mass, beginning soon at St.
Stephen's in Chattanooga. Note that there are conditions for
Catholics who wish to attend a Tridentine Mass. Chief among
these conditions are the recognition of the validity of the
Novus Ordo Mass. The Mass will occur monthly on a trial

Appreciation Dinner is
scheduled for next Tuesday, November 11, at Immaculate
Conception at 7pm. This will be a spaghetti dinner. Veterans
will eat free with proof of military service. Knights are
needed from 4pm to 10pm for cooking, cleaning, and serving.
Consider this project part of "serving those who served".

VADEBONCOEUR: The State Convention fund for the
2002 State Convention has now been closed, and the last of
the monies transferred to the General Acccount. At the last
business meeting, particular attention was paid to the role
played by Paul Vadeboncoeur, PGK, in organizing the
Convention, which was the last Tennessee State Convention
hosted by an individual Council. Thanks, Paul, for your hard
work & dedication!!! DEGREE NEWS:: FALL FESTIVAL NEWS:
Council 645 sponsored a hole at the Red
Kidd Memorial Golf Tournament, and several members also
assisted with parking for the Fall Festival on Saturday. In
addition, Doc Davidson worked the First Aid Station at St.
Joseph's on Saturday. Thanks to all who participated. St.
Joseph's School raised over $50,000 with these two
events!!! ADVENT CALENDARS: The
Advent Calendars ordered by the Council have arrived. Help
is needed affixing the K of C logo, counting out the
calendars for each parish, and distributing the calendars.

distributed questionairres to all current active members of
Council 645. Please review the information provided and
correct any errors you may find. Also, your responses on the

On Columbus Day, October 13, Council 645 lost
one of its long time brothers; Sir
Knight Jim Bentley, Sr., PGK, PSD. Jim had been a Knight
for 65 years, and will be greatly missed by his brother
Knights. Visitors will be received at Stevens
Mortuary, 1304 Oglewood Ave (524-0331) from 6:30-8pm on
Wednesday, October 15. A rosary will be prayed at 8 pm. A
Funeral Mass will follow on Thursday, October 16, at 10am at
Holy Ghost.
Interment will follow at the East Tennessee State Veterans
Cemetery at 5901 Lyon's View Pike. Pie Jesu, Domine, dona
eis requiem sempiternam. Amen. 10/6/03 OKTOBERFEST: Oktoberfest
in the Bavarian Alps. Actually this particular Oktoberfest
will be held at the Knights of Columbus Activity Park, on
Hwy 70 East, in Crossville, TN. Dates are Oct 10-11 and will
kick-off at 2:00pm CENTRAL Daylight Time on Friday with a
traditional tapping of the keg. There will be several bands
from across the county coming to perform. Come join the
fun. FALL FESTIVAL: October
18, 2003 is St.
Joseph School Fall Festival - All Day. Knights are asked

Congratulations, Doc, and Happy Birthday! CHAPLAIN'S CHALLENGE: The new
Roman Missal has been released and November 30 is the big
day for implementation. The Diocese is hard at work
educating not only the laity, but the clergy as well. As
Knights of Columbus, we should be taking advantage of all
the Diocese is doing to instruct us in the Liturgy. Please
use all diocesan resources, as well as Columbia magazine,
Our Sunday Visitor, and other sources to become better
educated in the Catholic faith. Now for the challenge:

September! NEW COORDINATOR, CP HOME:: New
Brother Malcolm Wells, Sr., has offered to take over
coordination with the Cerebral Palsy Group Home, given that
Richard Krowicki is moving to New Orleans. Brother Krowicki
did a great job getting this effort off of the ground. It's
wonderful that Brother Wells has agreed to step in and keep
this project going. If you haven't participated in one of
the CP Home Workdays, please give it a try. It's very

Congratulations to Malcolm Wells and Robert Hunt, on your
exemplification in the 2nd Degree! ICE CREAM SOCIAL:: Saturday
(August 30) was our 1st annual Ice
Cream Social, which was held
at IC Church. It was a big success due in part to the fact
that Brother Wells recruited a new prospect for our council,
who has filled out a Form 100 and is excited about joining.
Oh, and by the way, the social more than paid for itself.
Our Worthy District Deputy, Council 645 member, and Sir
Knight, John Sholly (PGK) was also in attendance with his
family as "Honorary Ice Cream Taster". Kudos to our Worthy
Grand Knight, Sir Knight Paul Rodarte (PDGK) for being the
Master of Ceremonies at this high profile event! BROTHER KNIGHT HAS PASSED
AWAY:: We were sad to hear of the death of Brother
Knight John Croes. John was a parishioner of Holy Ghost, and
received his first three degrees in 1948. Our condolences to
the family of Brother Croes: his wife Mary, and children
John, Peter, Catherine and Christine. May he rest in peace,

Columbus! 7/23/03 PROGRAM MEETING:: All Council
645 Officers and Committee Directors or Members are required
to attend the Program Meeting next Tuesday, July 29th, at
7pm in the basement of Immaculate Conception. INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS &
AWARDS BANQUET:: Officers were installed following a
Mass at Holy Ghost, on the Feast of St. Mary Magdelene -
Apostle to the Apostles. After the Installation, the Awards
banquet was held at the Texas Roadhouse. Despite a late
start, we had a very good dinner, and a lot of fun as PGK
Two-Bears Hebert and GK Paul Rodarte speechified &
presented awards. Of particular note were the PGK plaques
presented to John Sholly and posthumously to Stuart Metz. An
appreciation plaque was also presented to Dan Moneymaker,

Columbus! 6/23/03 SPANISH CLASSES:: Holy Ghost
Church is offering a Spanish language class for people who
would like to better communicate with our ever-growing
Hispanic community. Classes will meet on Thursday evenings,
beginning July 3 (through the end of August) from 7-9 p.m.
in the basement of Holy Ghost Church at 1041 N. Central
Street. This class is designed to give basic knowledge of
conversational Spanish to anyone, especially the people who
deal with the public, i.e.: pastors, teachers, health care
workers, law enforcement, etc. There is no charge for the classes. A
free-will donation will be collected at the first
session. Pre-registration is required so that
we can plan for the appropriate facilities and number of

meeting. 9/16/00 ALUMINUM CANS: We are still
asking that you bring your cans to our Tuesday
night meetings. At this time
they are paying around 50 cents a pound. This doesn't sound
like much, but it does add up. Other than Pancake
breakfast, this is our only
council fund raiser. Also, please save the tabs in a
separate container, as these go for another worthwhile
cause. They are used to provide Chemotherapy treatments for
someone in need. Your donations are appreciated. DISTRICT DEPUTY: Stu Metz has

to Supreme
Knight Virgil Dechants call

War II Memorial Wall, the
Council has elected to contribute a portion of the net
proceeds from the parish
breakfast held at
Immaculate
Conception Church on May 28,
and at Holy
Ghost Church on June 4. Please
show your support and come join us for breakfast on those
days. You will also have the option to view a short video
about the memorial. Your support will be greatly
appreciated. OPEN HOUSE: To be able to start

construction of the WWII Wall. CATHOLIC DAY ON THE HILL: Make
plans now to join members of the Catholic Public Policy
Commission at the state capital for Catholic Day on the Hill
2000. Don't miss morning mass at Old St. Mary's with Bishop
Kurtz and all our Tennessee Bishops! Meet our lobbyists, and
learn which issues they are working on. Sit in on committee

April 1, 2000 - for the Orderwide Jubilee Pilgrimage to the
Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate
Conception. Transportation and hotel accommodations are
