9/19/04 LETTER FROM A BROTHER KNIGHT: I
am Dan Brooks, PGK of Council 9317 in Cordova, TN. I just
wanted to take a minute and thank you for your sponsoring
the dinners for the CSA on the UT campus. My daughter is a
Freshman there, and she told me that the dinner was prepared
by the Knights and it was very good.. I know how busy it is
being a Knight, and many times we wonder if anyone really
notices our efforts. It is nice to know that there is a
council there and that they are active with the youth at the
College. Thanks again for your efforts. They

Troy Cantrell SEPTEMBER SOCIAL: On Monday,
September 6 (Labor Day) Council 645 will host a cookout and
ice cream social at Charter E. Doyle Park in South
Knoxville. The Council will provide the main course, the
drinks, and the ice cream. Each family attending should
bring a dish to share. Charter E. Doyle Park is a large
grassy park with both play equipment and open space, so
bring balls, badmitton sets, etc., if that sort of thing
interests you. There are also a couple of hiking trails and
real bathrooms! To get to the park, head south on
Chapman Highway to Martin Mill Pike. Turn Right. Go down
Martin Mill through Vestal and past King Tut's Grill.
Shortly thereafter you will see a sign and a parking lot on
your left. We will find us cooking out at the shelter, which
we have reserved from 12-6, lunch will be cooked around 1
pm. Please goin us and help make our second social as big a

Congratulations & Welcome to Brother Bob Tate, who was
exemplified in the 1st Degree on July 10 at the State
Kick-Off meeting at Our Lady of Fatima in Alcoa. Bob, his
wife Margo, and his children are parishioners at John
XXIII. BROTHER KNIGHT HAS PASSED AWAY:
On December 18, 2003, Council 645 lost one of its
long-time Brothers, William Maney. Bill had been a Knight
for 66 years, and will be remembered by his brother Knights
from his years in Knoxville. Bill is survived by his wife
Martha. Pie Jesu, Domine, dona eis requiem sempiternam.

MEETING: GK-Elect John Sholly has called an Officers
& Directors Meeting for Tuesday, June 29th, 7:00pm at
Immaculate Conception. All Officers-elect, returning
officers, and committee directors must attend! STATE KICK-OFF MEETING: The
State Kick-Off meeting is scheduled for July 10th, beginning
at 9 am at Our Lady of Fatima in Alcoa. The Kick-Off meeting
will be preceded by a 1st Degree ceremony. The GK, DGK,
Program Director, Membership Director, and FS must
attend. INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS: The
installation of the newly elected officers will be at St.
John Neumann Church on Sunday, July 11th, starting at
2:00pm. All newly elected officers are expected to attend.
Wives, children, and other family members are invited to
attend to show support for their Officer Knight. The Bishop
and a Fourth Degree Honor Guard will be in attendance, adn

Fr. Mankel has encouraged the Council to pray earnestly for
our seminarians and for vocations, particularly in the
Knoxville diocese. Fr. Mankel cites two major causes for the
crisis in vocations: the affluence of the American family,
and our attitudes toward vocations. CONGRATULATIONS!:
Congratulations to Malcolm Wells and Fr. Jim Haley, who were
exemplified in the 4th Degree on March 27th in a ceremony
honoring our own Doc Davidson. CONGRATULATIONS!:
Congratulations to Doc Davidson on reaching Honorary Life
membership in the Knights of Columbus. Among Doc's many
accomplishments with the Knights, it is worthy of note that
5 of the top 25 "hardest working Knights" in Council 645
were proposed by Doc. When you count Doc himself, along with
these five Knights in the hours total for this year, he's
directly responsible for about 20% of the work done by the
Council. Way to go Doc!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!:

Congratulations & Welcome to Brother Dale Neighbor, who
was exemplified in the 1st Degree on March 2 at Immaculate
Conception. Dale is a parishioner at Immaculate Conception,
and he and his son were on hand for the Holy Ghost / Convent
Clean-up on Saturday, March 6. Congratulations also to his
proposer, Jack McCusker! HOLY GHOST CONVENT CLEANUP:
Members of Council 645 spent their Saturday cleaning the
Council supplies and old Church supplies from the storage
room at Holy Ghost. This room will be the new Handicap
entrance to the Church. The Council's supplies have been
moved to the old Convent across from the Holy Ghost rectory.
There was a lot of work cleaning up and organizing the old
Convent as well. Thanks to Pig, John Sholly, Dale & his
son, Jeff Emitt, John Swindeman, Greg McGinnis, and David
Cavalari for putting in a long day of hard work! GOOD OF THE ORDER: Phillip

On February 13, 2004, Council 645 lost one of its
long-time Brothers, Jack Kassees, of Statesboro Georgia.
Jack had been a Knight for 36 years, a 3rd Degree Knight for
35 years, and will be remembered by his brother Knights from
his years in Knoxville. Jack is survived by two sons, and
his wife Shirley, also of Statesboro, Georgia. Pie Jesu,
Domine, dona eis requiem sempiternam. Amen. MARDI GRAS DINNER: St. Joseph
School's annual Mardi Gras Dinner will be February 21 at St.
Joseph School. As always, help is needed from the Knights to
work in the kitchen. Feel free to help, but FS John
Swindeman & Treasurer Jeff Emitt will be reprising their
"Mutt & Jeff" role from last year, and you will be hard

MOVED: The February 17
meeting at Holy Ghost has been cancelled due to the Mission
taking place at Holy Ghost (which Brother Knights are
encouraged to attend). A tentative date of February 24 has
been set up to have the 2nd meeting of Febuary. LENTEN SUPPER: Council 645 is
usually asked to provide the first Lenten Supper following
Ash Wednesday. This will be after the Stations of the Cross
at Immaculate Conception on Friday, February 27. HOLY GHOST CONVENT CLEANUP: The
clean-up of the Council's materials stored in the Holy Ghost
basement, and the clean-up and organization of the Council's
property stored in the old Convent at Holy Ghost, have been
scheduled for March 16 at 6:30 pm. SUPERBOWL PARTY: The Superbowl
party was a rousing success, featuring two big-screen TV's,
a whole lot of chili & beer, and a great deal of
comraderie. The Financial Secretary hearby extends his deep
thanks to DGK Troy Brenny for spearheading the obtaining and

Luther King march is scheduled for Monday, January 19,
beginning at Calvary Baptist Church on MLK Blvd. at 8:45
am. SUPERBOWL PARTY: A Superbowl

The District Free-throw contest will be February 7 at St.
Joseph School. Practice from 11am to 12pm, with the contest
from 12pm to 3pm. Note that the date and time for the
preceding competition at St. Joseph School has not been
determined. Check back for details. MARDI GRAS DINNER: St. Joseph
School's annual Mardi Gras Dinner will be February 21 at St.
Joseph School. As always, help is needed from the Knights to
work in the kitchen. Feel free to help, but FS John
Swindeman & Treasurer Jeff Emitt will be reprising their
"Mutt & Jeff" role from last year, and you will be hard
pressed to out-eat either of them. ESSAY CONTEST: Contact Jim
Cortese for details on the K of C Essay Contest for Catholic
School students. LENTEN SUPPER: Council 645 is
usually asked to provide the first Lenten Supper following
Ash Wednesday. This will be after the Stations of the Cross
at Immaculate Conception on Friday, February 27.
