FIRST DEGREE CEREMONY There will be a First Degree Ceremony at our August 2nd meeting. Refreshments (pizza and salad) will be served following the meeting. If you have not been able to get to a meeting recently, please come to welcome our new brothers.

SECOND DEGREE We have several First Degree members who have not yet been able to take the Second Degree. The Oak Ridge Council will be conducting a Second Degree on August 11. This would be a great opportunity. Your sponsor will be in touch.

ANNUAL COUNCIL 645 PICNIC AND AWARDS PRESENTATION Date: August 28, 2005. Place: Jim Cortese Home. Time 3pm-8pm. (Last Year's Pictures)

ROSARY GROUP For those men who would like to join in the recitation of the Rosary. We will meet approximately 20 minutes before the start of the regularly scheduled meeting. The rosary will be offered on behalf of our young people who are serving in harm's way in the Middle East.

BREAKFAST WORKERS We plan to restart the breakfast at Holy Ghost on the first Sunday in October, a few good men are needed to help with food preparation and clean up. Please contact us if you can give us a few hours of your time.

WELCOME DAVID OATNEY David Oatney has transferred to Council 645 from Ohio. He and his bride are parishioners at Holy Ghost and reside in the Inskip Road area. Please take the time to make them feel welcome.

BROTHER KNIGHT HAS PASSED AWAY: On July 13, 2005, Council 645 lost one of its long-time Brothers, Boyd Stokes. Sir Knight Stokes had lived in the Corryton area for many years and was a sailor in the Merchant Marine. RIP Brother Stokes.

BLUE MASS UPDATE Please come to the planning meeting for the 2nd Annual Blue Mass The planning meeting will be held at Holy Ghost Church on Thursday, August 25 at 7:00pm.

STATE KICK-OFF MEETING Officers are required to attend the State Kick Off Meeting at Knoxville Catholic High School on July 16th. Registration is at 7 AM, followed by Mass at 8 AM, and a 1st Degree Exemplification at 9 AM. The Meeting runs until 3 PM. Lunch is at Noon, and is $5-6. The GK, DGK, FS, Program Director, and Membership Directors are required to attend. Other officers are welcome.

OFFICERS MEETING Officers are required to attend a Council Meeting on Thursday, July 14, at Holy Ghost, 7 PM.

NEXT COUNCIL MEETING The Next Business Meeting is at Holy Ghost on July 19th at 7:30 pm. Please make plans to attend.

INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS All council officers are required to attend the Installation of Officers at St. John Neumann Church on Sunday, July 24th at 2pm. Fr. John Orr will preside over the installation.

BLUE MASS UPDATE Bishop Kurtz has graciously agreed to celebrate the 2nd Annual Blue Mass on September 29th. Fr. Mankel has offered Holy Ghost Church as the location for the Mass again this year. Volunteers are needed!

WELCOME DAVID MCGAUGH David McGaugh, PGK of Council 3175 at St. Mary's in Oak Ridge, has transferred to Council 645, and is now our Warden. Please welcome David at the breakfasts, meetings, and all other Council functions.

FATHER'S DAY DINNER Plans are firmed up for a Father's Day dinner to be held at John XXIII on June 19th. The social will begin at 6pm, and will include dinner, dancing, and an awards presentation to honor our long-serving brother Knights. Following is the menu:

  • Appetizers: pinwheels, cheese stuffed bread, fresh rosemary spread
  • Salads: fruit salad, garden salad
  • Entrees: ham or chicken casserole
  • Desserts: pastries
  • Beverages: soda and lemonade

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION PICNIC Council 645 is hosting a picnic in honor of Immaculate Conception Church's 150th anniversary. The picnic will begin at 2:00pm on Sunday, July 3rd, at St. Joseph School on Cedar Lane. Help is needed! Contact GK-elect Jack McCusker if you can help.

1ST DEGREE IN HONOR OF POPE BENEDICT XVI: Our new Pope, Benedict XVI, was the honoree at the 1st Degree Exemplification on April 19, 2005 at Holy Ghost Church. The Exemplification was held on the same day that Pope Benedict was elected. The degree team consisted of Degree Team Captain, Greg McGinnis (Chancellor), John Sholly (Grand Knight), Jack McCusker (Deputy Grand Knight), Russ Carvin (Warden), David Cavalari (Inside Guard), and John Swindeman (Financial Secretary). PGK Two Bears Hebert also assisted the Degree Team.

GOOD OF THE ORDER: Fr. Xavier Mankel won the Good of The Order at the Business Meeting on April 19. $39.50 was added to the Bishop's Burse.

NAME TAGS AT CHURCH: Our newest Brother, Bill Smith, was attracted to the Knights by seeing members wearing their name badges at Immaculate Conception, and behaving as "Catholic gentlemen." Grand Knight John Sholly has requested that all members wear their name badges to Mass and at all Parish and Council functions.

STUDENT DINNER, MAY 1 AT JOHN XXIII: There will be another Student Dinner at John XXIII on Sunday, May 1. Mass will be at 5:30 pm. We need workers to show up around 4:30 pm, and to serve the dinner at 6:30 pm. We will probably be cleaning up until after 8:00 pm. LITURGY OF THE HOURS: OFFICE OF THE DEAD: All are invited to attend the Office of the Dead to pray for the repose of the soul of Pope John Paul II. The Office will be prayed at Sacred Heart Cathedral at 7 pm on Thursday, April 7.

MEMORIAL MASS: All are invited to attend a Memorial Mass for Pope John Paul II, to be celebrated at Sacred Heart Cathedral at 8:05 am on Friday morning.

3rd DEGREE: A 3rd Degree Exemplification will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oak Ridge on Saturday, April 9.

1st DEGREE: A 1st Degree Exemplification will be held by Council 645 prior to the next business meeting, at Holy Ghost Church at 7:00pm on Tuesday, April 19.

CONGRATULATIONS HUNT FAMILY: New addition to the Hunt Family: Felicity Clare Hunt was born on Tuesday, January 11. Felicity is healthy and much loved by big sisters, Bernadette and Genevieve. Mommy Margaret and Daddy Bob are tired but overjoyed at the arrival of the new princess! First lesson for the new Hunt daughter: how to sleep at night!

CONGRATULATIONS MCCUSKER FAMILY: On December 27, Jack McCusker's daughter Shannon entered UT Hospital at 5am and delivered George Elijah Butler (9lbs 123/4 oz---22") at 10:27 pm. "Mother and child doing fine father ecstatic grandparents weary"

EVENT HOURS: DGK Greg McGinnis and GK John Sholly have devised a member reward system based on the number of hours that members put in at K of C (Council 645) sponsored events. You must turn in your hours promptly to the Financial Secretary John Swindeman in order to get credit for the hours. At the end of the year, awards will be issued based on the number of hours worked. Don't miss out! Take part! A great way to rack up hours is to work at the Breakfasts (see the next note).

HELP NEEDED AT BREAKFASTS: Volunteers are needed, particularly for clean-up, at both the Holy Ghost and Immaculate Conception Breakfasts. Don't leave your brother Knights in the lurch! LENTEN SUPPER & STATIONS OF THE CROSS: Volunteers are needed to assist in preparing supper and assisting with the Stations of the Cross at Immaculate Conception on February 11. BROTHER KNIGHT HAS PASSED AWAY: On November 30, 2004, Council 645 lost one of its long-time Brothers, John Brown. BROWN, JOHN RILEY ‚age 74 of Knoxville, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at his home. Mr. Brown was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and was also a U.T. Alumnus and a member of the Men's Garden Club. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was employed by the Knox County Court Clerk Office for 26 years where he retired as Supervisor having served under four Clerks on January 1, 1996.John was an active member of the Friendship Force International Club in Knoxville for fifteen years. He served as an officer and traveled to more than thirty different countries, visited every state in the United States, and has hosted international visitors to share his life and home in Knoxville.Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 3, 2004 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Mortuary with Rosary Services to follow in the McCarty Mortuary Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friendship Force International, 1205 Chickering Way, Knoxville, TN 37923 or to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Arrangements by McCarty Mortuary, 4004 Holston Drive, Knoxville, TN.

PGK TWO-BEARS HEBERT IN CRITICAL CONDITION: Two-Bears Hebert is in critical condition at UT Hospital. Please pray for him and visit him if you can.

DOC DAVIDSON ON THE MEND: Doc Davidson is recovering well from heart surgery. He is at Baptist Hospital Heart Center. Please keep him in your prayers.

NEW SHOLLY ON THE LOOSE: Grand Knight John Sholly, Leslie Sholly, and the Sholly family are pleased to announce the birth of Lorelei Elizabeth Sholly, born November 10, weight 11 pounds, height 21 inches. Congratulations, John & Leslie!

FRATERNAL BENEFITS NIGHT: Join us for a fraternal benefits night at Holy Ghost on Tuesday, November 16 at 7:30 pm. Insurance Agent Richard Hughes will be on hand to discuss the Knights of Columbus Insurance program. John Sholly will address wills, power of attorney, and other legal issues for families. This is an open meeting, so anyone can attend.

GOSPEL OF LIFE: Thanks to Bob Hunt for the organization of the Gospel of Life Rosary at Holy Ghost Church on October 3. There were about 40 people in attendence, praying a scriptural Rosary.

ST. JOSEPH FALL FESTIVAL: Thanks to Two Bears Hebert for leading the parking at the St. Joseph Fall Festival. Thanks also to Malcolm Wells, Michael Drake, Doc Davidson, Jim Cortese, and Greg McGinnis, who helped out on both Friday and Saturday parking crews.

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION AT HOLY GHOST: Thanks to all Knights who participated in the Eucharistic Adoration at Holy Ghost, on the Feast of All Souls November 2.

CONVENT CLEAN-UP: The clean-up of the Holy Ghost Convent will be on Saturday, November 20. Come prepared to get covered with dirt and ready to work!

COUNCIL MEETING & 2ND DEGREE: The next council meeting will be in the newly renovated parish hall at Immaculate Conception at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, October 5. Please note that a 2nd Degree Exemplification will also be held, so be there early (before 7pm!)

3rd DEGREE: The last 3rd Degree Exemplification of the year will be at Sacred Heart's Shea Room on Saturday, October 9 at 11:00 am. If you haven't attended a 3rd Degree in a while, why not attend this one?

4th DEGREE DINNER HOSTED BY COUNCIL 645: The October 4th Degree Dinner will be hosted by Council 645 at Immaculate Conception on Sunday, October 10. Help is needed cooking, serving, and cleaning up. Contact John Sholly for details.

ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL FALL FESTIVAL: Council 645 will help with the parking again this year at the St. Joseph School Fall Festival, Saturday, October 16 from 7 am to 7 pm. Contact Two-Bears Hebert for details.

MEMBERSHIP BLITZ SUNDAY AT JOHN XXIII: Council 645 will conduct a "Membership Blitz" recruitment at John XXIII on Sunday, October 17, in conjunction with Assembly 1083's presentation of a chalice to John XXIII. See John Sholly for details.

MEMBERSHIP BLITZ SUNDAY AT IMMACULATE CONCEPTION: Council 645 will conduct a "Membership Blitz" recruitment at Immaculate Conception on Sunday, October 31. We will also be having the first pancake breakfast in quite a while. Please make plans to attend.

PARISH LOT CLEANUP: Fr. Mankel has asked Council 645 to assist in the clean-up around the site for the new North Knoxville parish in Halls. The workdate is this saturday, September 25th, from 9 am until 12pm. Knights will be meeting in the Holy Ghost parking lot at 8:30 to caravan over. Trucks are needed to haul off debris. Bring yardwork equipment, particularly pruners, hedgers, and trimming tools. For details, contact Grand Knight Sholly.

RESPECT FOR LIFE SUNDAY: Sunday, October 3rd will feature a scriptural rosary led by Bob Hunt at 4:45pm at Holy Ghost. The glorious mysteries will be prayed along with scripture readings associated with each mystery and excerpts from Evangelium Vitae
