Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by Terry
Faulkner at 12:10. There was NOT a quorum for the meeting (10/28).
Approval of the Minutes
Terry asked board members to review the
minutes from the March 2005 board meeting. Sam made a motion to approve
and David seconded the motion. Approval was unanimous (but not official
because we did not have a quorum).
President’s Report – Terry Faulkner
There was a discussion of the size and
composition of the board relating to rotations and the upcoming board
elections. Tom distributed a report of board member attendance with the
names masked. 12 of 28 board members attend less than 63% of the
meetings. There was a discussion about how best to achieve a quorum.
Terry appointed Tim, Sam, Darren and Edythe to the nominating
committee. The committee will meet and recommend a slate of officer,
research board prospects determine who will rotate off, etc.
Terry circulated an EarthFest volunteer
sign-up sheet. KKB is responsible for its own tent with the GAC poster
judging and for the EarthFest waste-free event project. Any help will
be needed.
Executive Director's report – Tom
Salter
Tom presented the Financial Statement
and Summary for March 2006. There was a brief discussion but the
statement and summary could not be formally “accepted” because we did
not make quorum.

Great American
Cleanup™
Tom distributed a list of groups that
had formally signed up for the Great American Cleanup. The list
included 66 “officially” registered groups and another 10 groups that
are doing large cleanups but are not officially registered.
Tom announced a second work day at the
Mabry-Hazen House. We will have some out of town volunteers and others
can join in if they like.
The Calhoun’s luncheon donation is
confirmed with a firm limit of 200 meals.
Unfinished/Ongiong Business
Terry reported that the meeting with
Waste Connections went very well. We toured the facility and saw a
variety of tarping systems. One of the most promising developments is
that WC is purchasing “small” compactor trucks to replace small
pickup-sized dump trucks. The small dump trucks service small roads and
driveways and are notorious for losing trash. The small compactors hold
12 times as much and the trash is secured while the trucks are moving.
New Business
Tom announced that KKB would be participating in two national GAC
promotions. One is a partnership with Aquafina and Sam’s Clubs to
recycle plastic bottles. KKB will partner with SP Recycling and Knox
County Solid Waste. KKB will receive a $2,500 grant to manage the
program. KKB will also partner with Waste Management to manage two
projects that fit into the national WM Think Green program. We will
receive a grant of $3,000 and spend the money at Mabry-Hazen House and
the EarthFest Waste-Free Program.
