Litter
Prevention
·
KKB coordinated litter
prevention and recycling at the “SKA” Festival in the Old City. We
collected 15 full bags of plastic bottles and aluminum cans (was NOT a
beer event) and did a litter pick up at the end of the event. An
estimated 1,500 people attended and we collected more than 25 new
volunteer emails for future litter prevention projects.
·
KKB completed a Cigarette
Litter Prevention Program “trial project” with Keep America Beautiful.
Three target areas were selected in the Central Business District. KKB
counted cigarette butts in the gutter and sidewalk areas and the number
of receptacles present. KKB placed 10 new cigarette ash receptacles at
Market Square and the Transit Stop. KKB staff also distributed portable
pocket ashtrays to smokers on the street and arranged for restaurants
with outdoor seating to give them to their smoking customers. The first
survey was on 6/29/07, the second on 8/27/07.
