From time to time we've had pictures of pets on this blog.

KKB's
board held its annual planning retreat at the KUB
offices on Middlebrook Pike. Many thanks to KUB and KKB
board member Darrin Rhines
for arranging a great meeting room, drinks and A-V equipment.
Rather than use a facilitator, the staff and board reviewed and
discussed all of KKB's programs and looked at a detail schedule of the
year ahead. Everyone signed up for committee work. The first
meetings of our committees will be set at the next board meeting
scheduled for February 1st. Board members present were: Keith
Austin, Tobertha Anderson, Anne Felknor, Maxine Gunter, Sarah Surak,
Gary Drinnen, Mark Cawood, Darrin Rhines, Susan Long, Dave Collins, Mary
Lou Horner, Edythe Nelle McNabb and Sharon Webb. Knox County Solid
Waste Director John Evans gave an in-depth overview of the budget
challenges facing the Knox County Convenience Centers and the
pay-as-you-throw concept.

This was computer recycling day in Knoxville and Knox
County. More than 1,100 vehicles dropped off 16.5 tons of old
computers and other electronic gear next to the Staples on Peters Road
in Cedar Bluff. The event was sponsored by Staples, the
Optimist Club of West Knoxville, Goodwill Industries, the
City of Knoxville and other groups. Donations were accepted
for the Humane Society and the Optimist Club.
Several KKB board and staff members were there including
executive director Tom Salter and board member Sarah Surak.
Other friends of KKB included John Homa of the City of
Knoxville and Sara Hart of Knox County Solid Waste.
Team Vols sent a big group to help meet and greet the public and to
encourage donations. Here are some images from the event:

Stephanie Hood of KKB staff and AmeriCorps made a
brief presentation to the students of Pond Gap elementary school,
thanking them for their participation in the Return the Warmth
competition (see November '06 blog for more
information). Stephanie also reminded them that the jackets
they won were made of recycled soda bottles (PET plastic).

Christmas Tree-Cycling was a success. With the help of Wolf
Tree we chipped more than 600 trees at the Halls Knox County
Convenience Center. We had a good turnout from board members
including (shown below) Maxine Gunter, Harold Byrd,
Dave Collins and Darrin Rhines. Mary Lou Horner
and Edythe Nelle McNabb were also there but are not in any of the
pictures featured below. Jillian Gilbert of KKB staff and
AmeriCorps was also there all day.
