A memorial tree was planted at
Fountain City Park for Evelyn G. Kirby. The staff and
intern, Kate Parker planted the tree and presented the tree and marker
to Ms. Kirby.

Allison Teeters and Emily Nybo
went to Blount County and did a Landfill Tour for Maryville
College Garbology Students. This class typically gets a tour of the
Blount County Landfill and then goes to Sevier County to tour the
Composting Facility run by Sevier Solid Waste, Inc. Due to the
fire that destroyed the composting facility on Memorial Weekend, the
tour was not possible. Allison gave a presentation using
powerpoint and a diagram of the facility that was given to her by Tom
Leonard, Executive Director of Sevier Solid Waste, Inc.

KKB had its annual Board of
Directors Retreat held at the KUB offices on Middlebrook Pike.
Representative Harry Brooks attended and gave the board an overview
of the new litter laws in Tennessee. Keith Austin and David Jernigan
from Lamar Advertising gave an overview and answered questions regarding
electronic bill boards, an issue being voted on by Knoxville City
Council. Gene Burr from Scenic Knoxville, a division of Scenic
Tennessee, gave an overview and answered questions regarding the issue
of electronic billboards and the bottle bill.

Basketball Hall of Fame to say Thank You and Good Luck to Tom
Salter, and to say Welcome to Allison Teeters.

Allison Teeters, formerly of Keep
Sevier Beautiful and Keep Blount Beautiful, was hired as the new
Executive Director of KKB. Teeters formerly worked for KKB from
August 2000-December 2001. Teeters came to KKB after Tom Salter,
the Executive Director for the past ten years, was hired as the
new Knox County Solid Waste Director.
