Use the form below to nominate an individual, an organization or a business for the annual Environmental Achievement Awards presented by Keep Knoxville Beautiful.  The public submits nominations and a panel of independent judges selects winners.  The 2008 awards will be presented at the Orchids & Onions Awards Banquet, Thursday, October 9, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.    Scroll down below the form to see a list of the nominee criteria.

Additional information is not required but may be mailed to:  Keep Knoxville Beautiful, P.O. Box 385, Knoxville, TN 37901-0385, or hand delivered to Keep Knoxville Beautiful, 100 S. Gay Street, Suite 103, Knoxville, TN 37902, Monday - Friday, 9 am to 4:30 pm.  KKB staff will review nomination material and submit all nominees meeting basic requirements to the judging panel.

Environmental Achievement Awards criteria


Nominated businesses, organizations or individuals:

  1. must be located in Knox County,
  2. must have implemented recycling/cleanup efforts that have resulted in community and/or economic development,
  3. has contributed time and energy for the good of the community rather than personal gain - with the exception of some companies that do environmental improvement work as their core business,
  4. are models of creativity, hard work, leadership, unity, motivation, openness, integrity, and love for the community, and
  5. have had a major positive impact on the environment in the Knoxville/Knox County area.

Who should you nominate?

Do you know some unsung heroes who give time and effort to help improve Knoxville's environment. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  1. do you have a neighbor who organizes cleanups, tree planting efforts or volunteers to maintain the entrance to your neighborhood? Do you have a neighbor who tries to educate others about water conservation, tree topping, etc.?
  2. does your employer implement efforts to conserve water and electricity, reduce waste and reuse and recycle as much as possible?
  3. does your church or club sponsor annual neighborhood cleanup campaigns or plant trees and flowers at your nearby school or nursing home?
  4. do you know a builder or developer that protects trees from damage during construction or has a very clean job site?
  5. do you know of a company that is dedicated to improving the local environment?

Orchid Award Sponsorship (10 available is $1,000) deadline: September 5, 2008
Deadline for nominations: September 15, 2008
Deadline to sponsor a table: September 26, 2008
Deadline to reserve a seat or table:  October 1, 2008
Full table sponsorship is $500 (10 seats), half table is $250 (5 seats)
Individual seats $35 per person
