John Evans Memorial Plans
While a number of details must still be worked out, the most likely
memorial for John will be the creation of an
State Certified Arboretum at
House Mountain Park in Northwest Knox
County. House Mountain was a special place for John and his dog
Auggie and the consensus of his family and close friends is
that this would be a memorial he would be proud of. The Evans
family has designated Keep Knoxville Beautiful for donations in lieu of
flowers. Donations received will be used for the creation of the
arboretum at House Mountain.
National Make A
Difference Day Comes to Big Orange Country
On
Saturday, October 27th, more than 30 volunteers (a very fitting
description considering the project) will be handing out recycling and
trash bags at dozens of popular pre-game tailgating locations in the
Fort Sanders neighborhood.
Tailgaters will be asked to place plastic bottle and aluminum cans in
clear bags and the rest of their trash in black bags. Partners on
the project Keep Knoxville Beautiful, AmeriCorps and UT's Make Orange
Green.

AAA Foundation Road
Debris Study

Keep Knoxville Beautiful, AAA of East Tennessee, Knox
County and the City of Knoxville held a joint press
conference on Thursday, July 22, 2004 to bring attention to the study by
the AAA Foundation about vehicle-related road debris. The most
cost effective way to prevent accidents, property damage, injuries and
deaths from road debris is to properly secure all items being
transported in a vehicle. Click
here to read a summary and the full report. Litter
officials believe that a significant portion of roadside litter is
actually escaping from the beds of trucks and that cleanup cost to
taxpayers can be avoided if citizens will properly secure
loads.
