First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

211 West Fifth Avenue, Knoxville, Tennessee 37917

(865) 522-0545

The First Christian Church of Knoxville was founded in 1874. After meeting in various room and buildings for twelve years, the congregation was able to build its own sanctuary at the corner of Gay Street and Park (now Magnolia) Avenue. This facility would serve the congregation—renamed the Park Avenue Christian Church—for 18 years. But by 1914 the congregation had outgrown the Park Avenue building. Property was purchased at Fifth and Gay Streets, and a larger church was built, which was renamed the Fifth Avenue Christian Church. In 1926 the congregation again renamed itself the First Christian Church of Knoxville
