1601 Dandridge Avenue, Knoxville, Tennessee 37915
(865) 524-1601
The Mount Olive Baptist Church was originally known as the Second Baptist Church, and was founded in 1855 when a portion of the congregation from the First Baptist Church elected to leave and form a new church. In 1869 another split occurred when some members of the Second Baptist Church departed to form the Zion Baptist Church. The Second Baptist Church continued to grow and by 1900 was more frequently referred to as Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. In 1918, after meeting in the homes of various members for three years due to the loss of their own building, the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church was able to return to their church, at which time they elected to rename themselves the Mount Olive Baptist Church. In 1945 the Mount Olive Baptist Church moved into a larger facility on Main Street and in 1971 moved into their present location on Dandridge Avenue.
