Haiku/Senryu

Errant arrow
Flying Flying Flying
Target appears and the mark is won

Shadow of falling leaf
and leaf, merge
When the river stills

Autumn clouds
Fly by
The stray cat has died

Following the afternoon rain
Forest sunlight shaft
Glowing raindrops cover leaves

Mantis
Thru the window
Considers me

Up a steep rocky ridge
Into the clouds
Riding the edge of emptiness

Looking out the window
Blue clouds white sky?
Why not

Autumn camping
The trees and I
Admire each other

Sitting,
in a bubble,
of tranquility.

Winter trail,
Beyond the breath,
The sky unfolds

Summer evening's
myriad crickets chorus,
arms drinking the cool air

When the trail finally whispers-
let it go.
The millipede takes a step

Quiet seashore tidal pool
The clouds are the treasure
Not the shells

Today's Special

THE THREE REFUGES

I take refuge in Buddha,
and resolve that with all beings
I will understand the Great Way
whereby the Buddha seed may forever thrive.

I take refuge in Dharma,
and resolve that with all beings
I will enter deeply into the sutra treasure
whereby my wisdom may grow as vast as the ocean.

I take refuge in Sangha,
in its wisdom, example, and never-failing help,
and resolve to live in harmony with all sentient beings.

THE TEN CARDINAL PRECEPTS

1 resolve not to kill, but to cherish all life.
1 resolve not to take what is not given, but to respect the things of others.
1 resolve not to engage in improper sexuality, but to lead a life of purity and self-restraint.
1 resolve not to lie, but to speak the truth.
1 resolve not to cause others to take substances that confuse the mind, nor to do so myself, but to keep my mind clear.
1 resolve not to speak of the faults of others, but to be understanding and sympathetic.
1 resolve not to praise myself and disparage others, but to overcome my own shortcomings.
1 resolve not to withhold spiritual or material aid, but to give them freely where needed.
1 resolve not to indulge in anger, but to exercise control.
1 resolve not to revile the Three Treasures-Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, but to cherish and uphold them.
